DS has a Front cowlick... How to style?

We have normally been cutting it down short but he is Nearly 6 now and I was thinking of trying a style on him but no barbers know what to do with it. But I feel it may be too short for a hairdresser to do anything..

After he has seen all his cousins with new hairstyles he's been asking for new hair bless him.

He has one right the front in the middle and then three at the back of his head.

Any suggestions / styles ?

I'm not sure there is much that can be done. DS has one to one side over his forehead. It makes his hair stick up. Even putting gel in doesn't help as his hair is too fine and the gel doesn't do anything.
He's 8 now and we just leave it-he's not really bothered about having his hair styled.
