ive got the nikon D3000 although it has now been replaced by the D3100 which is more expensive. its fab, a great entry level dslr, but can take you onto the next level if you wish to get more into it.
the cannon equivilent is the 1000D but i much prefer the nikon.
just go to the shops and have a play, see how they feel in your hand-i think thats very important-
if you find one you like try ebay or other used sights, as often people get them, hardly use them and sell them on. you can get some great deals there.

I think I am going to watch this thread, fed up of my compact and would love a decent camera, does any one know if there is such a thing as a inbetween? ie not a compact, but not a dslr?

there is. they are called bridge cameras. you can get some decent ones for not bad prices. but sometimes its worth spending the bit extra and getting a dslr, but depends on which bridge you were after, the price range of those varies quite a bit. they half way between a slr and a point and shoot, look like a slr but a bit smaller and you cant change the lense like you can on dslr's :flower:

oh, you can change the lenses on the g2, I am in love with it, the touch screen is fab and the HD video is a bonus :)

ive got Sony A100 but want the 900 just need the money for it :haha:

I now have a 50D, started with a 350D, but now time has gone on, I'd say start with something like a 500 or 500D. :)

love my Nikon D40, need to get it out more again

Canon 500D here. Just got it as i want to do a photography course. I love it. Its brill for what i want....just every day shooting.

My Step-Dad has the nikon D3100 which i would say is just as good.

Just going to add new lenses here and there :D xx
