DH and I have gone around and around about a boys name. We finally settled at 25 weeks on Samuel Ellis.

TODAY he decides that the wants to name him Samuel Henry. Henry is DH's middle name. Mind you I suggested Samuel Henry FIRST and he shot it down and said he didn't like it.

I'm due in 3 days and I don't want to change his name. I really like Samuel Ellis now. DH say he really wants the baby to be named after him somehow. I told him he already gets the last name, and I don't want to change.

I am wrong? I told him I'd think about it. It's not like we have much time at this point.

My question is 2 fold.

1. Am I being a jerk for not allow Sam to have DH's middle name?
2. Which is better Sam Henry or Sam Ellis?

No you're not being a jerk at all, naming is tough so when you've finally decided it can be annoying to change it again. But, I voted for Samuel Henry because I think it sounds and looks nicer than Ellis.

I can see why you're irritated. Does Ellis have any special meaning to you? If not I would probably let him have Henry, assuming you like that name, too.

I think Samuel Henry flows better, personally, but Samuel Ellis is a nice name as well.

Ultimately if you do feel really set on Samuel Ellis I don't think it's mean or anything, you had decided on the name so I think it's fair to say you dot want to change it now.

My husband did that a lot during my first pregnancy. Our son probably had about 5 different names from start to registry day. We were actually sat in the registry office waiting room, trying to agree on a name for him.

We had DS2 yesterday and he's still nameless because my husband changed his mind again. He was originally Reuben Thomas, then we agreed to change his name to Samuel, and then Samuel didn't actually suit him. Can you not agree to wait until baby is born before agreeing on a middle name?

We changed our bAbys nMe on her due date- first and middle, we'd had it for 24 weeks!

I like Samuel Henry and as it has meaning behind it I would use that

You're not being a jerk at all! You get used to a name, you love it, you see your baby having this name... And BAM, might not be that afterall!

At least the first name is the same since that's the main name you'll be using for your little one. :)

Ellis doesn't have a special meaning, I just heard it and liked it.

I told DH I'd think about it and we can make the final decision once we see him. I still chaffed though.

I'm surprised at how many people like Samuel Henry better.

We changed our ds name when he was born, he just didn't suit it so there is always time for change. I love the name Ellis, in fact it's our top boy name for #3 but I think Samuel Henry does flow better.
I understand the frustration of these men changing their minds about names.

For me the double 'el' sound when going from Samuel to Ellis is just a bit of a mouthful. I like the names themselves but think Samuel Henry flows more naturally (and I love the name Henry too).

I was changing names with my youngest right up until a week before he arrived, i think DH was getting bored when I would through a new name out there lol Naming a child is hard, and take all the time you want to name your precious little bundle.. Some times a name will come even after baby has arrived <3

I voted for Sam Henry, such a cute combination :)

and no you are not being a jerk. DH wanted our next child if its a boy to be a junior and i VITOD that right off the hop!

I much prefer Samuel Ellis, but if your OH feels that strongly then I would consider Henry.
