My DS woke through the night for his dummy practically since he was born. We tried cold turkey which didn't work for us, as it left him very distressed without it so we gave it back. He then went through a stage where he would wake maybe once or twice which I can deal with, or sometimes sttn, but recently he's back to waking up a lot. He throws his dummy around his cot then he can't find it so I have to get up several time a night to put it back in.

I've tried a sleepy tot which didn't work because he kept pulling on the bunny which then pulled the dummy out! I don't fancy putting several dummy's in his cot as he rolls around so much I'd imagine it would be uncomfortable rolling over them. We use a dummy clip through the day which is great, if the dummy drops out he just puts it back in himself, so I'm wondering if there is one that's safe for night time use, one with a short ribbon that I could attach to the top of his sleep suit?

I personally wouldn't, but I'm very wary of dummy clips in general and only use them when I'm watching her closely - and we went through the bunny-pulling phase of the sleepytot and found we came out the other side with her using him as he was intended to be (in the dummy finding sense... unfortunately she's still using him to swing around by the ears and hit me over the head with the attached dummy full force - which bloody hurts) - but it took a month or so to get there.

I use dummy clips but wouldn't use them at night. My son is now old enough to find his dummy if it falls out. If he can't he likes to 'eat' his blanky toys or his soft toy's nose. Have you tried other comforters?

Yeh he's never been into comforters, he just lovvvves his dummy lol. I've been trying him with the sleepy tot again today but he's having none of it, just pulls it straight back out!

Have you actually tried putting a few in his cot? I normally have to fish the dummy from underneath my son. He's never had a problem sleeping on them. :) Could you also let him cry a little? I don't mean controlled crying, but more like give him a moment to find his dummy or calm down on his own. I find if I'm slow to get to my son, very often he's lying with his eyes shut with the dummy back in his mouth without my help, by the time I put on my dressing gown and go into his room.

Id put some soothers In his bed I wouldn't do the clip

We use the clip at night. It has a short ribbon so can't do any damage.

I saw dummies for sale a few days in the go that had glow in the dark handles! Maybe something like that would be more useful?

Thanks for your replies ladies! We tried putting a few dummies in the cot last night and it seemed to help a little, he only woke once crying which is a BIG improvement. I'll keep trying

I made my own dummy clip with a really short ribbon so it's safer...but I found Jake would 'play' with it in his sleep and end up pulling the dummy out his mouth!

I wouldn't use the clip, I agree. Any length of string can get tangled up around the neck, around an arm, around a finger and cause the baby to lose a body part or cause other problems... I've seen a baby lose a finger from playing with a short string without supervision - the circulation got cut off for too long and it couldn't be saved - it's called "tourniquet syndrome" and usually occurs with hair that got caught around a toe but happens with other items and body parts, too.

Anyway, I'm glad the bunch of pacifiers worked pretty well. I did the same thing with my baby. You can never add too many of them to the pile. haha
