We've bought some dummy wipes because I thought it'd be a good idea to clean his dummies, wipe baby's hands and clean his toys if he drops them etc.

But I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative? Would hand gel be ok or is it not safe for babies?

Definately wouldnt use hand gel. That wouldnt be nice to suck on! I just used to take a few dummies with me and if she dropped it Id give her a new one. You can get sterilising balls that clip to your pram that you just chuck it in to clean it if you wanted something other than wipes (although i wouldnt bother with those either tbh). If its only occasionally im sure just rinsing them would be fine until you can sterilise them again. p.s i wouldnt clean his toys if he drops them. Germs build up their immune system so unlikely to cause any harm (unless they are dropped in mud or something of course).x

I use them if we are out and he drops something, but at home I don't. They are too expensive to use all the time. As far as using hand gel as an alternative, I wouldn't. The alcohol content it too high, and some of the other ingredients really aren't safe for cleaning something meant to be put in your baby's mouth. Having said that, I do use hand gel on his hands if I have no other option for cleaning them when we are out, and he puts his hands in his mouth, so I guess I'm contradicting myself. LOL. But anyways, point being, I would stick to wipes made for that type of thing if you can. Or possibly look on Pinterest for homemade versions?

Thanks everyone!

Actually, it's not really the dummies that I worry about as I have spares, but it's more how to clean his toys as he really sucks on them... and the dog licks his hands  How on earth do I clean that?! He loves nomming on his fingers and I don't know how to clean it (yes, am trying to train the dog not to do it)

Id just use a baby wipe tbh. x

Milton wipes, Milton fluid diluted to wash things at home or just for dummy's you can buy a Milton soother steriliser that can attach to your bag to keep sterile or sterilise on the go I think x
