I know recent studies have shown that an earlier exposure to foods (ie peanuts) make a food allergy less likely. Anyone know if it works the same way for animals? I'm allergic to cats and so is the donor we used. We recently found a 4/5 month oldish kitten outside in our parking lot and took him in. We are on a busy road and didn't want him to get hurt or taken in to be used as dog training bait or freeze as it still gets cold at night. That was a couple weeks ago. We tried to find his owners, but no on came forward. Chances are he was just abandoned. But he is soooooo sweet and loves dd and our dog, so we are thinking of keeping him. I had some allergy issues when he first got here, but allergy meds, my nose spray and chiropractic adjustments have made them go away.

I'm wondering if earlier exposure will make it less likely for her to be allergic as it can with peanuts?

Yes, there are some good studies out there to show that kids with exposure to household allergens, including pets, in the first year of life are less likely to develop allergies and asthma down the line. Now that's not to say that your individual child won't develop allergies, but there's no reason to prevent that exposure if you're happy keeping the kitten anyway and it may end up helping one day.
