If you have previously had a loss, are you immediately offered an early scan upon your booking in appointment with the midwife or do you have to request one? x
Are you in the uk or Us? I am from the uk and have had 2 miscarriages and have been told it is unlikely i will get an early scan. I have spoken to my gp and midwife who just seem to want to pass the buck between them , I have an appointment with the midwife at the surgery tommorow to see if I have any more luck. That said there is somewhere quite close to us that do early scans for £50 so that is the avenue i will take if i have no luck, its worth it for my own peace of mind. Hope you have better luck x
I'm in the UK and as far as I know they don't do any early scans unless their is an urgent reason to ie. ectopic pregnancy.
I was told I was at high risk of miscarrying and I was having pains and spotting and their answer was 'you're under 16 weeks so just let it run its course there's nothing we can do and scanning to make sure everything ok isn't going to make anything better. If it's going to happen it's going to happen'. It was really insensitive and horrid but I don't think it's routine. I'd ask anyway maybe your hospital may be different or like PP said go private x
I'm in the US and they offered me a scan at 6.5 weeks before booking my first official appointment and scan at 8 weeks after my first miscarriage. The first pregnancy I got a scan at 8 weeks where we found out the lo had moved on around 6.5 weeks.
i only had an early scan because i was bleeding at 5 weeks...not much to see so had another at 7 weeks...but i wasnt offered one becauseof my previous loss.
I had 2 MMC (2 blighted ovums) prior to this pregnancy, so I when I went to the GP after finding out I was pregnant, I said that I wanted an early scan and that I was not happy being refered to the Midwife until I had a scan. She rang the hosital there and then a booked me a scan for when I would be 6+2, over the phone. She also agreed to my request of blood test for quantative HCG.
They wouldn't have offered me one without me pushing for it.
im in the uk and when i was going through my 2nd MC the nurse at the EPU told me me i could have a a scan at 7 weeks when i fall pregnant again. When i fell pregnant, i told this to my GP and she referred me straight away, but i think this was because i had two losses, (one of which was MMC) and no healthy pregnancys x
It all depends on your gp and how hard you push if you are in uk. My gp and midwife are having none of it with me, but my mmc was at 12 weeks (baby was only 11 but definately had passed away) so for me a scan any earlier would be no good anyway hence why they won't refer me. If you try saying the stress of the worry is really getting to you, stopping you sleeping etc etc maybe they might refer you for peace of mind, claim you are worried that all your worrying is going to have bad effects!! It may work.
HI, where are you based? I know of a hospital in Essex who will do early scans after miscarriage!! You may be to far away. You could also ring around some of your local hospitals and ask. x
because i do not feel reassured, because im just as worried that something will happen before my next scan, and this timewill be even harder as i have seen my baby and a heartbeat.
