My baby is 5.5 months old and formula fed. I began weaning around 17 weeks as he had dropped a centile on his chart and was advised so by health visitor. He was more than ready for it and loves his grub. He so far has had just simple veg, purée fruit, and baby porridge, but now want to start varying his diet a bit more but not sure if it would be ok to start doing this or if I should wait till bang on 6months. I got some Greek yoghurt, and some milk loaf (was gonna put mashed avocado on it or houmous). Would it be ok to let him try a little of those?

It's hard to know about a lot of foods before 6 months, I can imagine it being a pain in the ass when you're weaning early for medical reasons! I think I'd personally stay away from dairy products until 6 months but that's just me.

Generally, the recommendation is to wait until 6 months for dairy and wheat (or anything other than pure fruit, veg and baby rice). It's only a couple more weeks and then he can eat anything, so I'd just wait it out. If you're concerned about weight, formula is the best thing you could be feeding anyway as it has more calories than solids anyway and will be more likely to put the weight on.

He was refusing formula (only taking minimal amounts!) and dropping in his weight chart for a consistent time period hence the introduction of solids early. And it was right for him as he is gaining weight again nicely and bizarrely it has helped us get more formula into him. Of course every baby is different so I know what was right for him wouldn't necessarily be right for another bubba. Thanks for the advice though ladies, it's slow traffic in the weaning area lol, was worried I wouldn't get any replies! Xxx
