Just wondering really (and thinking whether I should wean pre 6 months this time as Oscar has been sleeping badly, seems hungrier and loads more fussy recently).

Solids seem to be introduced pre the recommended age for a reason - be it poor night sleeping, wanting to feed all the time, generally being fussy and unsatisfied etc etc...

If you weaned, pre 6 months, what was the reason and did weaning help?

We tried for a few days at 5 months for reflux, and no, it didn't help. If your baby is hungry, bm/formula is the most filling option. Way more calories than baby food.

I was advised by my sons surgeon to wean early due to him being a very sicky baby, he's still quite sicky so it didn't really solve much to be honest

We weaned early as baby just didnt take to formula much..... Not that I can blame her lol.... She just kept reducing the amount she was having so I started weanin her,Health visitor agreed with me too and everything is going great now.

God luck

My 1st for reflux and no, didn't help.

Yes yes yes! It helped so much! I am honestly mad at myself for not doing it sooner. I was dead set against weaning before 6 months as people say that you are setting your child up for a lifetime of problems (I read this on so many sites). DS was always either crying (screaming) or eating or throwing up. He took little cat naps of 10-15 minutes. The ped (not their regular one as he was one vacation) told me at 2 months that this was normal so we had 2 months of this non-stop except for the night when he was seemed to sleep good though he continued to throw up even at night. DH finally convinced me just shy of 4 months to give cereal and the baby that I knew was gone. He was completely different. He is much calmer and naps for longer. The crying and throwing up isn't for completely but it is so much better. Their regular ped told me last week that he has reflux. My poor baby was in pain but I didn't know it and am so mad at being given poor advice and being dumb enough to blindly follow it. I hate that my little boy had to go through so much that could have been corrected had I just threw some cereal in his bottle.

Oh I'm so glad to hear that!! It didn't help my boys' reflux but I have heard it does for some. Reflux is hell!!!!

Weaned at 5m 1w because of drs advice. He didn't really have any problems, he was sleeping through the night... His only issue was throwing up milk when burped (every time). So he recommended a few spoons of food. Worked great!

I did with dd1 at 3 months because she was so hungry eating 40+ oz a day and sleeping so little. it made a huge difference. from the first night she slept 12 hours straight! i only started her on cereal for the first two minths and she still had about 25-30 oz of formula on top of 3 spoons feeds if ceteal made with formula.

I weaned at 19 weeks as my son lost interest in milk and wanted our food. He took to it brilliantly.

Weaned at a stupid corrected age (thats the guidelines for preemies) and she had reflux

Didnt help one bit :nope:

we started weaning at 18 weeks. lo was a sickly baby and was always hungry. at first we where told to put him on hungry milk but once again it made him constipated ( the only milk he is ok on is comfort), so we started him on solids. it helped a lot! with in days he stopped being so sick and slowly his 15 bottles a day cut down to now only having 5 a day now. the only thing it has not helped with is his colic which he still get now at 7 months

We've just started weaning DD at 19 weeks because for the last 3 weeks (or more I've lost count lol) she's been drinking 45-50 oz of formula/day and started waking up every 2 hours (sometimes 3 hours and that was a real treat!!!) to feed. She was showing sign of constipation and didn't really seem satisfied after her bottle (she would drink 5-6 oz and then want more less than 2 hours later). So we started with whole grain oatmeal, and she likes it! No tongue reflex and she swallows most of it.
