Eastenders - Lola & Lexi

I actually think they're showing Lola in a pretty positive light, you can see that she really cares for Lexi and is doing her best, it's social services which are being shown negatively imo.

The EE storyline is absorb. Poorly done and clearly no research gone into it.

I'm a SW and can tell you this from fact. If the house is constantly a mess and there is risk to the child, things on the floor wires, exposed plugs then yes we will kindly inform the parent that the room is a risk to the child and put help into place to ensure that mum knows what is safe and help her do it. Dishes in the sink - not at all. Its expected that as a new mum things like that are left. So long as the baby isn't being given milk out of a mouldy bottle who cares.

Plus the fact that the baby was given to Phil just shows how extreme this programme is. Baby is not fit for Lola because he house is unclean and she hit someone, but is perfectly safe with a known crimelord, murderer and crackhead.

I sincerely hope people don't believe this is what Social Work is.

I watched Eastenders a few weeks ago, the episode where the social worker keeps on at her for the dishes and on at billy for the alcohol and where she punched that girl in the face for saying nasty stuff about Lexi then she got arrested later on, police and ss took Lexi away and she pleaded to Phil to help her and told him Ben was the father. I'd never watched EE in ages until seeing that episode and haven't watched it since, though I've wanted to cause i'm intrigued on what will happen but never watch telly much tbh.

….. now I know that it’s not real and its all fiction bla bla bla…. FACT: social services just make things worse, I’ve witnessed it. There just a bunch of bitter bitches. Lola is a real good mum and doing the best she can and fighting til the end to protect her daughter. I would do the same. Its funny that social services don’t focus on the actual shitty parents like drugs and alcoholics like Phil. LOL! There a waste of time and scaring young girls into abortion, adoption and stressing new mums out even more. It just makes me angry because its as close as it gets to in real life, EE have got it spot on. its raisin an important issue. I could of rang the neck of that snotty social worker, personally i think it betrayed a social worker very well cause that's what they are, sorry if you are one but yeah that's my opinion.

Sorry but that's my view and i would never trust a social worker with my child to be honest after my personal experience. It really upset me and brought it all back.:cry::cry::cry:

I hate this storyline but i am aware of how unreal and exaggerated it is! I have dealt with many many social workers (nothing bad, my parents were foster carers) and the majority are lovely supportive and work there damned hardest to ensure that children are placed with good families and support the parents to eventually have the children go back home.

I don't like how all social workers are placed in the same catergory. Especially when, like on this thread, people are complaining that social workers do that exact same thing e.g. all teen parents/people with learning difficulties are unable to care for children iykwim

I know that there are some shitty social workers out there but there are also some amazing selfless ones as well.
I considered becoming a social worker as i genuinely care about the welfare of children and have seen first hand the awful situations innocent children find themselves in but because of public opinion regarding social workers which isn't helped by ridiculous storylines like this i decided against it. It's a shame because i feel like i would make a great social worker but didn't fancy being labelled like so many others are xxxx
