My first was EMCS after over 30 hours of labor during which they didn't let me eat. Because I had a breathing tube, I didn't even have a liquid diet for at least a day after. It was pretty bad and I was absolutely STARVING!

I just received my surgery information today. It is scheduled for 2:30PM. I'm supposed to fast for 8 hours first (which means I will absolutely be going out for a large breakfast at 5AM  ). So my question is: How soon after surgery does the hospital normally let the patient start on broths and liquids? How soon after that do they allow solid foods?

No comments on how I just had my baby's birth scheduled and all I'm thinking about is food. :haha:

I ate about 30 mins after I came out of theatre, I was starving (emcs)!!

Xx

I think you can eat as soon as you want? I can't remember being told I couldn't but didn't straight away so unsure (not much help I know :haha:)

They like to hear what they refer to as 'bowel sounds' before they let you eat. It's so they know your intestines are functioning after the op, as all the jigging around can shock the organs a little. Once I was back on the ward and settled after being in recovery they made me toast or if it was mealtime I would be allowed to eat.
I've had 3 sections, soon to be 4. It's been the same each time. x

Once I was in recovery/delivery suite they let me have some tea and toast. They'd made me fast for nearly 16 hours as my section kept getting pushed back due to emergencies. They had to put me on a drip as my head was pounding and my mouth was like sandpaper. Not a great experience!

about an our after my sections i had some tea and toast :)
