Lately Jasmine has been having 6oz at each feed!!!! 6 bottles of 6oz, then at 5am she has 4oz... Thats a total of 40 oz in 24hrs... this isnt a growth spurt either.

So maby people have suggested starting her on some cereal, which I know most of you will disagree with, however I do know lots of people who gave it younger then Jasmine is...

How much do other 2month olds eat?? She weighs less then 12lbs still.

well as you know I BF so I cant be sure but when I give her a bottle ( which I've done a few times over the festive period!) she has about 6 oz in a bottle and she feeds 8 times a day. Dunno if that helps! x

I have no idea tabs eats alllll the time still hence being 13lb 12 abd 62cms aalready tee hee!! I just give her as much as she wants and i'll do that when i give her a bottle too. But my mum gave me baby rice at 6 weeks and my OH was about 3month when his mum did so i dont know... i think u go with what u think is best, as soon as tabs wakes up more than once in the night i'm going to give her something :hugs:

That sounds like a normal amount to me. :)

Really, anyone i've told how much she has says that is quite alot for a baby her age/size.... She just never seems to be satisfied either.

Shes had her first pablum bottle tonight... I only put a tbsp in with 6oz of milk and she drank 4.5 oz and is soooo settled!!!

So I hope it continues to work for her, im just going to start with 1 bottle a day until I make sure she isnt going to be upset or constipated. I gave it to her early too just in case she got upset.

rice cereal and formula... She has never fell asleep and been so content that quick ever.

Happy baby! :happydance: Are you gonna try one at bed time?? Not sure what time of day it is there....:shy:

Its 6:30 here now, I gave it to her early in cse it upset her tummy, but tomorow I my give it to her at bedtime. I can see now how it does help them sleep a bit better now, just because she looks more comfortable, I think she was just drinking too much fluid and getting bloated... if that makes any sense.

Yeah - I suppose the thing with formula is its not got this 'fore' and 'hind' to it that BM is supposed to have - It's more a consistent 'one size fits all' food. So it makes sense to have some kind of difference in what they are taking...some for a drink and some to really fill them....if that makes sence too... :) She sounds nice and full from your description.

Thats what i'll have to do soon tabs can feed for 2hours and still not content :(

awww... little piggy horsey girl babies eh? They must have fast metabolisms lol... Ive also been able to eat hoards of food (well until I got pregnant).

She had 2 bottles with pablum in it last night and seems ok, so im just going to do 1 bottle a night for a few days. And go from there. Eventually I will make porridge when she can sit up a bit better, but right now the bottle is the best way I think.

Glad it working, just a word of warning :) I gave jacob baby rice as he is really hungry taking anywhere between 6-8oz every 2 hours!! But because he is on Lactose free milk you cant get hungrier baba formula so HV suggested it, it worked great for 1st 2 days until it came to him actually digesting and pooing it out......NIGHTMARE because he is young his gut in less developed and it took the poor lil thing so long to digest it and he screamed pooing 2 days later :( so ive stopped it now and just putting up with feeding every 2 hours :) But each baba is different so hopefully jasmine will be ok :) but i would limit it to start with like you said to get her used to it :) XXX

She really never has been colicky, that is another reason I chose to give it to her cause colic is an immature gut... but we'll see how it goes, It works great, it doesnt then I will wait.

It wasnt the frequency of her eating that bothered me, it was how much she was eating, not keeping down and still being hungry...

see man archie is wanting 8oz evry 4hrs i dont know if to switch him to hungrier baby food or wat....i gave him sum baby rice the other day with an oz or so of his milk n he still wanted the whole 7oz of milk.....wats a girl to do???

but he is a v sicky baby he doesnt puke the whole lot up but is sik alot n really gags sumtimes
i tried him on gavicscon which made his belly 10x worse being constipated as he has bad trapped wind as it is x

just wondering, does jacob poo every day? or just whenever?

I think I'm going to ask my dr about something like this too because she's started taking 6oz every 2 - 2 1/2 hrs too in the day (but sleeps through the night), although shes 6 weeks tomorrow so it could be a growth spurt. So she didn't have any difficulty swallowing it? I think the reason people are against it is they can't swallow it right sometimes.

I dont know where people get the idea of having issues swallowing it... You only put a tablespoon in the bottle and it does not change the consistency a whole lot, it has a similiar effect as gaviscon in bottles does. I actually know several people (a friend and also one of my OHs sisters girls) who were prescribed putting rice cereal in their bottle, with very young babies with reflux. .

Like Ema pointed out, it can cause constipation in some babies, that is why you have to start it out very gradual. That is what my doctor said the issue is, not choking. Your doctor likely wont advise it as they have to follow their charts etc now, and nowadays this isnt done until 4 months unless the baby has reflux. But talk to anyone with kids our age and they all gave baby rice at like 1 months and all had healthy babies who slept through the night... I dont know where all these new statistics and stuff come from.

And when I was in school we were taught that thickened liquids are easier to swallow then non-thickened... but actual food is what is the choking hazard.

How big is Renah now? I would wait until she is at least 2 months, and make sure she is not colicky (if she was?) at all anymore. Jasmine can hold her head up very well which is a sign also of well developed neck muscles etc which helps with swallowing and not choking.

Renah's somewhere around 11lbs. She sees the doctor on Tuesday so I'm going to see what he says to do. She sleeps through the night (well 6 hours at least) but feeds so often in the day. I guess she stores it up to get her through the night or something!!!
