hi girls im having my retrieval tommorrow and whilst im very excited im also incredibly scared, it says in my paperwork that i will be given pethadine so im expecting this will be a mild sedation, im after some reassurance really from those of you that had ec without a ga x

Hi Raf-wife!

All the luck in the world for EC tomorrow! I had EC last year without GA. I was only told on the day that it would be done under sedation and had terrible visions of waking up mid op. This is not the case! I remember nothing from being given the injection in my hand to coming round in recovery being told how many eggs they had retrieved. I'm sure you will be the same, its like a very deep sleep and as it was over quite quick (20mins or so) it did me just fine

Lolly xxxxx

Hi Lottie,

I had the same experiences as Lolly, i thought it was going to be a GA until i got there and was told it was to be a sedation which panicked me a bit. I am not very good at all in hospitals, i even can faint when visiting people.
That is getting alot better now after going through IVF but i was really worrying about the EC but it was so fine!!!! Just like a lovely deep sleep!!
Good luck for tomorrow, hope you get loads of great eggs!!
xx

thanks both i cant believe with all the surgerys ive had im getting myself in such a state,
i guess it the unknown, im feeling really sick too and i think thats a mixture of nerves and the trigger jab x

I had EC with only sedation this was plenty, i cant remember a thing only when i started to come round when i got back to my room.

Honestly i was out of it, and when you wake up you dont feel grotty or anything like GA makes you feel. I think this was enough for my personally i wouldnt of done GA anyway as my clinic advised sedation was enough and they were right. I asked my partner how long i was down and he said no long at all 20mins or so..

Good luck hun
x

Hey Lottie!!!!

I asked my friend who had a sedation for a tooth extraction, she said when they inject the stuff into you you just drift away, it's like a really deep sleep & you don't even realise you've gone to sleep. And, she even came round a bit after 45 mins, & she said she felt no pain at all, it was like she knew what was going on, but didn't care what was happening!

Sounds like a really strong dose of valium!

We will be fine I reckon, it's normal to be scared though, I'm petrified. Will be thinking of you tomorrow & hoping for lots of good eggs for you!!!

Best of luck today lottie, will keep my fingers crossed for some lovely eggs for you. xxx

thanks ladies you were right i hardly felt a thing i remember saying ouch a few times but they topped up the meds and i slept through most of it x
