I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb/over the top questions but...I read recently that you aren't suppose to eat bean sprouts as they may carry e-coli or salmonella. I have egg rolls in my freezer that are store bought and packaged. I'm assuming since they are premade and will be cooked in the oven that they are safe to eat. Do you think that's alright?

I'm sure you're fine. As long as they are heated properly, it's not an issue. To be honest, many things can carry E. Coli/Salmonella, even lettuce.....

So it's just good practice to wash things, as you normally would, and when eating prepared food, make sure it is served hot.

Thank you for your reply! They're heated until very hot so I guess it shouldn't be an issue....Off to eat my egg rolls :happydance:

I had a egg roll yesterday at lunch, nothing has happened so I'm assuming they are ok? I didnt know about the bean sprout thing... whoops

Yeah I think that essentially (at least the way it was explained to me) is that anything that's grown and comes into contact with dirt (which is most fruits & veg) have the ability to carry the bacteria.

It's not just raw meat items that can carry them...

So as a rule, I keep a clean kitchen and wash all my fruits and veg. So far so good :D

Eggrolls sound really good....:D

Just out of curiosity how does the ecoli come into contact with vegetables? I've heard of it happening over the years with lettuce, spinach, etc....

I have started to let all my fruits and veggies soak in a large bowl of water as my grandmother has been doing that for YEARS and swears by it.

The egg rolls were delicious!!

Can'twait23, I'm sure you will be fine! I had a large bowl of pad thai from a local restaurant a few days ago and didn't realize until the following day that I had consummed lots of bean sprouts. Granted, they were cooked until hot so I'm guessing that's ok.

I think it has to do with the dirt in which they grow, as most growers use manure-based fertilizers. The manure itself can contain those bacteria, and if not washed off from the veg, you can get it.

It can also happen with a contaminated water source that is used to irrigate/water the crops.

I don't think it takes much more than a quick rinse under the tap, which what I always do...

I am pretty easy going with all the germ stuff though, I'm not paranoid about getting stuff and I rarely get sick. Funny enough, when I do, it's usually from a restaurant! And not the take-out kind

I make my own egg roll with cabbage, ground beef and a bit of onion and spice. no bean sprout, I had some the other day put it was cook more than 5 minute. I think you shall be ok :)

Thanks Spikey doodle! That makes perfect sense.

Having worked in a few different restaurants your last comment doesn't surprise me one bit! At least where I live restaurant closures/fines/convictions are posted online for all to see.

Ot but after reading this thread last night I had a dream that I was served egg rolls on a campsite (I know wtf) and then I freaked out because I couldn't eat them. I don't even like egg rolls!

Lol That's hilarious!

Dreams are so weird these days.... I have all sorts of crazy dreams too, all very entertaining! :D

I know my dreams have become so vivid and odd since becomming pregnant! I used to not really remember most of my dreams, and they were usually completely random. Nowadays I remember every night and they usually relate to something that's happened in my daily life.

That's funny!:haha: Dreams can be so strange. I had really weird dreams last night...the best one was seeing my dog come sit next to me on our couch dressed in an old woman's dress and wig. I asked my dh why the dog was dressed like that and he very nonchalantly said, "He does that evey night...he likes dressing like that." :haha: SO ridiculous!!
