I had an emergency c-section with my daughter and the recovery was terrible. I was in so much pain for the first week and it was week two before i even felt comfortable to lie in bed! My wound was also infected a couple of weeks afterwards even though i wasnt doing much exercise. How is recovering from an ELCS? is it better or worse, or the same? Now that i know i am definitely having my c-section the nerves are really kicking in and im heartbroken that i wont be able to do anything other than lift the baby afterwards, i've read that i wont be able to keep lifting my toddler? :nope:

I had an EMCS in 2009 with my oldest and my recovery was appalling- they say it was because she was so far down the birth canal and to try and get her out they cause trauma to me. i was in hospital for a week, bled for ages, infections, lots of bad bleeds and clots.
I had an ELCS in November, it has been amazing- i was out of hospital the next day, and yes the first couple of days were painful as long as i kept up with my pain killers it was fine, we were out and about every day from about 5 days post op, i felt so well i had to remind myself not to do too much or lift my 3 year old daughter! I am still bleeding but it has been so light all the way through.
Good luck with your c section it will be fantastic x

Absolutely better with my elective (and they were only a year apart)
I had an infection and a lot of pain with my EMCS, but was out of hospital after 2 days with my ELCS :)

After my emergency C section in 2007 this recent elective has been soooooo much better. Recovery is easier, yes still painful but painkillers take care of that. I have a lot more feeling around my scar than last time. It's actually smaller and very neat. But tbh I was still very nervous the day before.....xx

I can't compare as haven't had an emcs but recovery from my elcs was great, no problems at all. I couldn't have lifted my older child for about a month after, but you manage, if you do try and do too much too soon you'll only put yourself back recovery wise in the long run - this I know from experience after I tried to go for a run at 4 weeks post section lol xx

After i had my daughter by emcs i was told not to exercise too much or do anything that involved moving at all actually! my health visitor scolded me because my OH and i took emily a walk to the shop just round the corner from my house three days after my c-section, she was livid! there's only so much of staring at 4 walls a woman can take

I know of a few mothers that have had an emergency C/section and then an elective C/section and they say they have felt so much better after the elective. I suppose with an emergency you have laboured and every thing is done in such an unplanned manner - whereas with an elective CS you won't have the tiredness of a labour to cope with as well.
