Not sure if anyone can help me out here... My SIL has just failed her fifth attempt at IVF. I don't know all the details as it's painful for her to talk about (especially when I got a BFP on our first attempt at ICSI) but they get all the way to egg transfer and then get a BFN. They've been told the egg never even attaches. They've heard that there's something called 'embryo attachment' where the embryo is actually implanted in to the uterus at the time of ET, which obviously increases their chances but they (and myself) can't find any info on it. I'm just wondering if this is a new procedure or something that is done abroad?? Any info would be a great help! Thanks in advance :)

I think she is talking about "assisted hatching"? It's where they wait until blastocyst stage when the blast sheds it's outer shell so that it can implant......maybe this?

Hi, so far, there's no new technology to attach the embryo to the uterus wall. I checked and asked 2 Fertility Specialists previously and they both said if it were possible, more people would be pregnant and they'd be really happy.

Alexapoo could be right, your SIL could be talking about assisted hatching, which after day 5 fertilisation in the lab, is hatched and then, transfered back into the patient.

I have also heard of an endometrial biopsy being done on cd21 the cycle before a transfer - it cause the lining to wake up, be stickier, and release a hormone that helps with implantation.

Sending her tons of love and luck - my heart is broken for her.

xo

Thanks Alexa.

And thanks, Blue! I'll mention it to her and see if she's knows about that. The thing is they keep going to the same clinic and they don't seem to be doing anything different or changing procedures... I think the clinic are just quite happy to keep taking the money. xx

I hope she will find a new doctor. How horrible for her, but kudos to you for caring so much!

Ok, I'm still not sure what it's called as my mum was trying to explain it to me and can't remember the name... but apparently it's a relatively new procedure where they fertilise the egg and then attach it to the uterus in some kind of 'basket' in the hope that the actual egg itself will have a better chance to attach and implant. Now off to google it....
