Hi ladies

So my birth story is a little bit late, Emelia is now 4 months old but its taken until now to be able to get a quiet few minutes (and some time on the laptop!!) to be able to get it written!!

I was due on the 27th Jan and had got to the point where i was on maternity leave, had a lovely christmas etc but now everyone was back at work and i was bored... REALLY bored!! I just wanted this baby out!!

OH and i had chosen to have the baby at a birth centre instead of a hospital as i particularly wanted a water birth. We had already been on a tour and the place was lovely, expect they only had two birthing rooms. So they had already told us that when i went into labour i needed to call first to check that a room was free, otherwise i would need to go to my back up hopsital anyway. I also knew that the only pain relief i could have was gas and air....

So on the 18th Jan, it was about 4 in the afternoon, i sat down with a cup of tea, hacked off that nothing was happening, as all my friends that were due seemed to have had their babies!!! My back was killing me so i text OH asking him if he would help me put my tens on when he got back from work, his response was sheer excitment at the fact i was hurting because it obviously meant i was in labour!! After breaking the news that i was not in labour, i had just had a date with two baskets of ironing that morning and was just a little sore, he agreed to help me out when he got back.

So, we settled down for tea, me complete with tens machine and OH was convinced it was labour!! After starting to feel a bit tired, i decided to head to bed about 8:30pm, my back still sore but not getting any worse.

By the time i was half way through One Born Every Minute, i was having full blown contractions, it all happened so fast i no idea what was going on  Having said all that, part of me thought that couldnt be it as i was having no pain in my stomach, only my back.

OH started timing my contractions and by midnight he was on the phone to the birth centre who suggested we go in. So after all this waiting, bags went into the car and we started the 40 trek (!!!!) to the birth centre. I was examined and told i was only 1cm dilated, i was gutted :growlmad: no baby for me yet :nope:

So we started to head home and i decided that i would rather be at my parents so called them in the middle of the night and had them get up too!! I tried some paracetamol as advised but within 20 minutes of taking them i started being sick so knew that was no go!!! By 5 o clock on the morning of the 19th i was in agony, but still no pain in my stomach!!!! So off we trekked back to the birth centre, with my mum in tow (Bless her!!) only to be told that i was only 3cm and to go home and have a bath!!! The annoying thing was i only needed to be 4cm to be allowed to stay and get in the pool!! I had started to get really upset by this point as one midwife told me i wasn't really in labour as my stomach wasnt getting tense during the time i said i was contracting??!

So we were homeward bound again, all of us shattered and me getting really hacked off, even telling OH that i just 'wanted it out'!!! :haha: By 11am i decided to scrap my birth centre plan and head to the back up hospital for an epidural, my back was killing me and 2 hours in a hot bath was not helping!!!

So all three of us packed up into the car one last time and OH called the hospital to say we were going in.... Then, as if i didnt have enough to concentrate on while kneeling on the back seat with my head in the parcel shelf :haha: the birth centre called to say that the hospital had been in touch to say i was going in!! They gently persuaded me to go back there, with a promise that they would keep me this time and not send me home!!

I was dreading them examining me, thinking they would say that i was 5cm max, and i was trying to prepare myself for the long haul!! But when i got examined they told me i was 7-8cm and that they would start running the pool, so with gas and air tank number 1, i jumped in!! It was amazing, i laid floating in the water, puffing away on the gas air and managed to relax enough to doze on and off for about an hour!! Mum and OH stayed with me the whole time round the pool along with a midwife called Sam who was amazing!! I noticed people starting to talk a little quieter and they then came to say that things might still take a while, as i had had no show and my water still hadnt broken, i think they were trying to prepare me a little!!!

Mum decided she needed the loo and i remember her saying to the midwife 'will she be ok' the midwife was like yeh sure, nothing's going to happen any time soon!! By the time my mum got back 5 minutes later i was clinging on to OH telling everyone i was ready to push!! Mum was in shock, she goes 'i've only been gone 2 minutes!!!!!':haha:

I asked the midwife if all my pushing was in vain, with my water having not gone, and she offered to break them for me to help me along... i braced for a painful experience but felt nothing and after my waters were broken the need to push became a lot more intense... They also told me that as far as my water birth went, that was the end as there was meconium in the waters... Baby's heart rate had been fine all the time they had been monitoring her, but then all of a sudden they said her heart rate had dropped massively and i needed to get out of the water.

We all moved into the other side of the room, me onto a birthing stool with mum on the floor next to me and OH behind me, practically holding me up. Baby's heart rate was still dropping and the midwife told me i had about 4 minutes to get the baby out before we had big problems... They told me they were going to make a small cut, which again wasnt really painful, and within 2 minutes, my perfect little girl arrived.

The first couple of pictures are within the first hour after she was born and then the last one is her today at nearly 17 weeks :cloud9:
