You all pretty much know my situation now lol...
But was wondering if I can still get employed whilst I'm pregnant?
I've got a job at the moment but it isn't very reliable (I'm only in when they need me sort of thing) it's £5.52 an hour and I'm usually in for a maximum of 9hours a week, sometimes not at all which isn't great knowing I'll need to provide for my baby.
I'm also on no type of contract which means I won't get paid for maternity leave doesn't it? :dohh:
Anyway... I need a more stable job whilst still at college to start saving for the little one but how do I go about it?
Will someone employ me knowing I'm going to be off for 12weeks in 7months time for maternity leave? And how do I go about telling them? In my CV or interview? I don't know

dont leave your job! i was ina really unreliable job, cash in hand and no taxes! so it was kinda dodgy and i left thinking id get a new job with better prospects, and no luck. so im on jobseekers atm which is really terrible and its really hard to get a job whilst pregnant over here, it might be different in manchester! good luck to you, and just stay in the job you've got until you do find something new =) and also, you don't have to tell them your pregnant in your interview or on your cv if you dont want to, they dont have to know until your ready to tell them!

You don't have to tell them in the interview. I had an interview and I found out about a week later that I was 7 weeks pregnant so I really didn't know, then I started about a month later I didn't tell anyone really until I was starting to show. But my friend is having a hard time finding a job after she quit and she is about a week a head of me and she is having a hard time finding work I'm sure it is because she is showing and they think they have to put her on a leave. I know here employers are not allowed to deny you even though you are pregnant though. but thats here in vegas..

I dont think know one is allowed to deny you on the basis of being pregnant but they wont put that as why they didnt employ you. Ask for more hours at your present job but dont quit till you have got another job. I wouldnt tell them yet and if they ask if u knew before hand when you start and have been there a bit say you didnt. Good luck with the job hunting :)

If anything stay in that job untill you actually find another. It could take time and by the time you start your new job it also doesnt mean you will get paid maternity leave because you have to be employed by the same employer a certain amount of time before you qualify for paid mat leave. If you cant get more hours at your current job maybe you can keep that job but look for a second one part time around the hours you work now. Also you dont have to tell them at an interview or put it on your cv. Wait untill your in the new job then tell them after..there is no rush to tell them at your stage!

In your situation i would stay in the job ur in, but look for another, if you manage to get a job with say 16 hours? That way you qualify for tax credits..then quit your current job. If you manage to get a new job soon, you do not need to tell them your pregnant until you feel comfortable, you arent legally bound to until you are handin in yout Mat b1 to organise your maternity leave/pay x

Get another job but don't give this one up til you get one.
And they don't have to know until you're ready to tell them. I wouldnt do it in CV or interview, coz I know they aren't supposed to turn you away but if they read your CV and it said you are pregnant they would just throw it in the bin regardless of skills you have x

Thanks everyone for the advice :)
I'm definatley not leaving my job I have now, well not just yet.
I'm gonna go on the hunt for another job any day soon and we'll see where it goes from there.
I'm just in an awkard job at the moment, I'm a housekeeper in a hotel, so it's not going to be too easy changing a super kingsize bed with the LO popping out of my belly lol then again, I've got a while yet haha. I'm also using alot of chemicals all the time which can't be too good.
I'm trying to get as many hours as I can now but I'm still going to stick at that job until I find another more suitable one
Thanx everyone :)

Actually, Sarah-Jane, that potential exposure to chemicals might actually help you. Pregnancy in the workplace rights in Canada state that your employer has to either alter the potentially harmful risks to the fetus, or find you a suitable alternative. I wonder if that might help you get more hours in a different part of the hotel? Go online and look up pregnancy in the workplace + your country and see what comes up. Most governments have a good document that is actually written in English, not legalese. It's a good idea to inform yourself before you approach your employers.
Good luck!

I was employed until I was 6 weeks pregnant. I walked out on the job, because 40hrs at that time was to much, I felt crap! I regret doing it now, because I've not got as much money as before. So don't leave your job, just look around for others. And if I was in your situation, I wouldn't tell them about your pregnancy, until you're further along. I'm sure you could get away with it for a while. I just left work, and went on Job seekers, and now I'm struggling to find a job. I mention it in my cover letter that I'm pregnant, because I'm further on than you. But don't leaveeee until you know you've got another! It's not a good idea! Lol. x

im going down the agency line, as your not promising to stay for any lenght of time, and im going to be sat at a computer so im not going to tell anyone unless they ask.

I think by law there is a certain point where you have to tell your employer that your pregnant. Im not 100% sure but i think its about 4 or 5 months is when u legally have to tell them. Thats what my careers advisor said to me. It is very hard trying to get a job whilst your pregnant. As Donna said i always mention on my covering letters that im pregnant but im further along also. But your only in your early stages at the mo. Good luck with finding a better job hun. xxxx
