Do you think it can run in families? I know it's a bit of an odd question but my sister and I are pretty much going through the same thing, only she's been going to the doctors to get checked out and I haven't. She's been told it's likely she has endometriosis and is having a camera put through her bellybutton in a month to get confirmation (sorry, don't know what the procedure's called.) But every single symptom she's had I also have and she's been ttc for 3 years with no luck. I won't be able to go to the doctors to get the ball rolling until at least August because of the type of medical insurance I have here but I can't help wondering that I have endometriosis too.

Hi ya,

Yes it can run in families sometimes - as the causes aren't known for sure, it's not known why, but it tends to be something that does run in families.

I have endo, so does my mum, her aunt, and my cousin.

Really hope you don't have it, but if you have the same symptoms as your sister and she does get diagnosed with it, you should push to get a diagnosis too (once you are able to).

I believe a lot of infertility factors can run in the family. My mother fell pregnant quickly, then unfortunately lost her at birth. She was stillborn due to my mother having a too small of a birth canal. My cousin has the same problem, and she had to have c sections with her girls.

I have PCOS, and plead with my sister constantly to get herself checked, she is 13 months younger than me and soon to be married, and already talking of children in the near furture. I'm very close to my sister and would give anything to save her from the heatache I have endured.

I fully recommend you seek out a family medical history - find out what your mothers fertility was like. Anything you can find out may help. My mother tried for 8 years after her stillborn until she fell again with me. I didn't find this out until I began to ask her questions when I began to suffer a similar fate with my fertility. Had I have known I may have seeked out help much sooner.

Thanks for the replies ladies! My mother always had the same problem menstrual cycle as we have now but fertility wasn't a problem for her, she had five kids! Including a 17 gap between two of them. But she has said she always had the debilitating pains etc.
I guess i'll find out in a month when my sister's been to the hospital.

It just seems like the women in our family are super fertile (they all have large families and fall pregnant in almost the first try) so just the fact that we've had to 'try' at all seems like an issue!
