hello can anyone explain this to me a bit more. A long time ago my gp said i had this, all i no is that it can affect your chances of getting preg and i get extremly painful periods dont no alot about it though. All though no pain this month when the dreaded :witch: showed up, i was only 17 when diagnosed never really took much notice untill now because in trying to conceive, would really appreciate it if anyone could explain or have any good tips

Your GP Told you? What happens is they usually refer you to a gynecologist, and then if they suspect it they do a laproscopy.(sp?) - which is where they blow your stomach up with gas, and then they put a little scope in through the belly button, Did any of this happen to you?

Perhaps you should go back and be referred to a specialist, if you do have Endo, there certainly are treatments to help reduce it, and make TTC much easier..

Best of luck!!!

well what happened was i went to see a specialist and got sent to hospital to have key hole surgery but where i was only 17 i was scared and to cut a long story short, i didnt get it done but they said it was that and that the only cure was pregnancy or menopause and that the contraception pill will help with the pains, which the pill did help but now im trying for a baby im worried its not going to happen

Aww honey, I don't know how old you are now, but a lot of medical knowledge has come about when it comes to Endo. They can do so much more these days. I myself am being tested for Endo as my GP suspects it. But my GP has told me it's not the end of TTC, many women can still conceive. In fact there are great treatments to help with Endo, so never give up!!!

Best of luck :hugs:

I have endometriosis! In fact, ALL the women on my mom's side do! In all honesty, all of them but a couple ended up having a hysterectomy down the line. Sooo I have it hereditarily. Periods are always murder, I can't eat or sleep half the time because it hurts so bad the first few days. Endo can cause fertility problems if it's bad enough. BUT good news- all the women in my family that had endo also had kids! My grandmother had 4! BUT- they also had their kids in their early- to mid-20s. I don't know if that's a factor or not- I really think it's just based on how bad you have it.

If you don't know what the condition is, I'll explain as best I can:

When you have a period, your uterus sluffs off its inner lining, and passes it with the blood. This tissue is called the endometrial tissue. What happens in endometriosis is that tissue grows outside the uterus (not sure WHY). So you have uterine tissue that grows on the outside of the uterus, on your ovaries, and sometimes it grows on other nearby organs. An example would be that my mother had tissue growing on her pancreas (?). The pain during your period is because when you have a period, that endometrial (uterine) tissue contracts (cramps). So when that tissue is outside the uterus and contracting, it's contracting whatever organ it's attached to. In my mother's case, she would throw up every period and not be able to eat because it was contracting her pancreas (sp?).

There are treatments to make it better, although you can't get rid of the condition. There is a treatment called balloon therapy which I believe is the most common and least invasive (haven't looked much into treatment myself). Anyway, the point is, all the women in my family had kids, and even I am pregnant with my second now. It can definately cause problems, but shouldn't mean you CAN'T. Good luck hun, I hope that made sense! :hugs:

don't worry everyone is right lots can be done and it doesnt necessarily effect your chance to conceive...i had a cyst on my ovary that ruptured (the first i found out i had this condition) and ended up in hospital afterwards i saw a consultant and was told they woulddn't know if it had long term problems until i started trying and then if there was a problem they would do investigations and or treatment. well after 8 months of trying i got pregnant!

i found out i have endo yesterday (mine is of the uterus lining) but it cna be in ovaries, pelvis, fallopian tubes, bowels bladder etc. Bascially wvery month when you bleed for some reason some of the blodd travels upwards instead of leavin your body. The blood moves up through your pelvis cavity and leaves scar tissue. It varies in satges and severity but this is why it can cause infertility problems because it can block your tubes etc. I might have it in other places the only way to confirm this is with a laporoscopy but my gynae. said as i am ttc to leave it for a while! (which im glas coz needles etc scare me!). He did an internal ultrasound and said my uterus lining is bulkier/thicker/heavier than it should be and thats how he diagnosed it.

He had sivne me a prescription to take the first three days of af as like you i get severe pain. I also have heavy af and bowel problems and back pain during af. Some of this could be due to the fact that i also have a retroverted/titlted uterus which one in five women have (nothing to worry about). I have read that you are more likely to have this if you have endo aswell.

The good news is he told me that i will get pregnant. (Im on my 5th cycle of ttc at the mo). This is why he only gave me the prescription for 6 months. You would be best to go to a gynae. and they could do the ultrasound you might not need a lap. It really helped me! Good luck!
