I had my twins 5 weeks ago today. I had an episiotomy ans second degree tear of the perineum.

It's much better but still a little sore and when inserting a finge I side my vagina it feels lumpy! Is this normal? Will it go back? I also feel when walking for a while that there is something inside my vagia?

Will. Ever fel normal again! What if this affects my future with hubby? Am I just being paranoid that it's never going to be the same again!

Feeling really low bout it!

hi.. i was wondering this too... i gave birth 8 days ago, and i feel like i have so many stitches..Its so sore and feels v heavy down there....It feels lumpy and jagged... too scared to look in a mirror... Will it ever be the same again . x

Hi ladies

Firstly congratulations on your births.

I suffered from a 2nd degree tear plus a couple of grazes. I felt uncomfortable down there for a while and I asked my Dr to take a look at my 8 week postnatal check up. He convinced me it was healing nicely and it did with time! I can't remember at what point it stopped hurting or how soon I felt ready to have sex again but I think by 6 months down the line at the most I was completely fine and able to have pain free sex again.
It will get better with time but if you are concerned then there is no harm with getting it checked. X

Hey ladies, as a nurse who's works in postpartum And has worked in labour and delivery...When being stitched up, the skin is pulled tight and it can make a little ridge, especially for vaginal tears..Even labial tears can seem a bit rough. Once the stitches absorb the tissue will straighten itself out again, not to worry!

Oh thanks for the reassurance ladies just what I needed!!

Hiya, I had the same thing. I had pain for a few weeks, and then occasional shooting pains for several months after that (especially if I was, e.g. sitting on the edge of a chair). I was worried about that but I think now it was just the nerves sorting themselves out.

I felt tight and sort of lumpy for ages. I kept getting hubby to look and he said it looked ok, but it felt different, and it took almost a year to feel normal again. Sex was uncomfortable for the first six months or so, and it gradually got better.

It will get better, but be prepared to give it time :)

Not to scare anyone but I guess I am the odd one out or had a shitty OB. I had a pretty bad 2nd degree, almost 3rd degree tear and was stitched up poorly. It has been almost 5 years and I still have random tissue that is just there and will never go away, it looks as though I have a permanent hemorrhoid. I was in pain for pretty much the first year and it still is painful every once in a while. Luckily I didn't tear or anything with my second and hope not to with this one either but it is a bit emotionally scarring because of course DH thinks its a bit ugly.

I had an episiotomy with a first or second degree tear and honestly, it wasn't too bad to heal from. I did not touch myself down there for several weeks so I can't comment on the lump, (perhaps you are feeling some scar tissue?). I recently had my 6 week check up a few weeks ago, and all felt the same down below, aside from a bit of external tenderness in one particular spot, but nothing to shake a fist at. My doctor also informed me that that spot will heal fully, but it will just take time. TBH my backside was far more painful than the front, if you catch my drift. Our bodies are made to do this, and yes, you will feel more normal again. :)
