i love the name evelyn but i was having a talk with my mum and she said it was an old lady name lol me and my oh said it was gonna be just us picking names but now my mum said that im starting to wonder if it is a bit out dated. what you think?

my friend is called evelyn she hates it because people mispronounce it

hers is pronounced

ev ---lynn

she goes mad when people say

eve---lynn

i like it but understand her fustration

I think it's a lovely name, also at it's not as popular now it's unusual without being too different, if that makes sense? x

its my great aunts name who is very old so of course I associate it with an old lady but I like the older fashioned names so I think its pretty :)

I love it. It was on our list of girl's names but we went for Katherine instead. It will prob still be on the list for #2 though ;)

i like it but i think i prefer evie-lynn just my preference though its a very pretty name

I think Evelyn is gorgeous, especially with nickname Evie. Love it! X

my mum would of loved me to call my 1st evelyn IF she was a girl, i think its such a cutey name but i'd already picked a girls name.

if you both like it then sod what anyone else says, its not upto them.xx

Some days I like it, some days I dont  I pronounce it ev-velyn

This is my dream name! If I have a daughter, she will be called Evelyn (pronounced Ev-a-lyn). It's a name i've loved since I was a child, giving it to my dolls and I haven't outgrown it since. I think it's so pretty, but can be shortened to Evie which isn't overly girly if you have a tomboy and it's so classic, it would last her right through to becoming an old lady herself and it's not too common.

Luckily, I warned OH early on and he's happy with it too.

That's the name we've picked out for our first girl :) With the intention of shortening it to Evie...

Evelyn is lovely, and you have the option of Evie as a nickname, which I think is lovely, obviously im a little biased...:winkwink:

I love it. How would you pronounce it? I pronounce it like Cinderella (Ev-a-lyn)

It was high on our list last time (pronounced Ev-a-lyn), but then I found out that MIL's maiden name is Evelynn so that turned me off from it. Still think its a beautiful name, I just didn't want any association with my MIL.

I LOVE THAT NAME! If my moms best friend hadn't of named her daughter Evelyn then I would of named my little girl that. I think Evelyn Rose is a gorgeous name (that is the name of my mom's best friend's daughter).

We had that picked out for a girl (we have 2 boys) It was going to be Evelyn Grace.

Maybe we will get our girl this time, not convinced though.

Ignore other people's associations with a name you like, my work colleague thought Ruby's middle name Rosemary (pronounced like Rose Mary) was an old lady's name.

I love so called old lady names
Elsie
Lilly
Grace
Rosie
