I never even thought of it for my daughter and I don't know anyone who has used it. I think the Evie abbreviation is more popular. I like it though, its a nice traditional name but not common.
Check the top 100 names list for girls for the last couple of years to see where it is and if it has become more popular.
That's how I pronounce it, too. I knew one person who said "EVE-a-lin" (when she was saying "Crabtree and Evelyn") and I thought that was gorgeous as well.
one of my old school friends had a daughter earlier this year and called her Evelyn. however he is quite a formal person -2 other friends went for Evie and Eva; i think the shortened versions are generally more popular/common (not meaning common in a bad way!)
