Hi everyone, I'm thinking of weaning very soon with some baby rice and it got me thinking... I'm rubbish at expressing can get out like an oz if I'm lucky. So would I use formula or cows milk to make up rice and purees?

Thanks xx

You can use full fat cows milk in food from 6 months :) I started off with EBM but it was too much of a faff to pump everyday.

Here they say don't use cow's milk in things like baby cereal because it's not cooked...but things it's cooked in you can do from 6mo. I would just express a bit with my manual pump...don't know if my boys just never had a ton of cereal or what but an ounce would be plenty :)

I used EBM to start with but it was too much hassle so I just use full fat cows milk! Good Luck!

i used normal milk with my other 2 children. they were drinking it from 9 months too

Cows milk is not recommended because it has 3 times more protein than EBM. Why not use water to make up baby rice etc if you don't want to express? Expressing gets easier the more you do it too.

That's not the advice here, you can use it mixed in cereal etc too....milk may be treated differently over here maybe? It's all pateurised anyway so doesn't contain nasties....just that formula and breastmilk contain more of the stuff babies need (vitamins, minerals, antibodies etc)

Dont you heat baby rice there MO3?

No? That must be the difference..I always wondered why it was ok to add it to cereal there lol. Here, this is if you use the store bought baby cereal, you just dump it from the box, mix with formula/breastmilk/juice or whatever it is, mix it up and serve it. You can warm it up a bit, or warm the milk you put in so it's not cold, but that's it. Ours you don't cook at all

I understand it's the the advice there, that's why I said "here they say" not everywhere, or that anything anyone else said was wrong..just stating what the recommendations are for us. :) Everything here is pasteurized as well, it's nothing to do with that, but that milk when not cooked in things such as cheese or yogurt that the proteins are hard for baby to digest, that they aren't ready for milk plain (or added to stuff you aren't cooking) until around 12mo. But just like everything else they say different things everywhere, I was just giving what we are told so she can choose what she feels is best
