I'm keen to keep exercising while TTC but am unsure whether it's silly to do so during the TWW?

Things i want to do are: Cycle 20-30kms maybe once week, spin classes, run on treadmill, x-trainer.. not all on the same day off course!!! : )

Anyone had advice from Doctors or specialists about whether exercise is/isn't ok during the TWW? I know in pregnancy you can exercise but have to take it easy & watch for overheating... But what about just normal exercise during TWW??

Hi Juniper

I'm not an expert on this but I have thought about it a bit since I like to run. My understanding is that vigorous exercise like running could possibly interfere with implantation (although I don't know that there are ANY proper studies on this). Apart from that, I think the main issue is with regular strenuous exercise interfering with hormonal balance, like when serious athletes stop menstruating, which is apparently quite common. It's a question of diverting resources away from reproduction and into building muscle etc., and low body weight. I think the assumption is that strenuous exercise may just make things sub-optimal for conception.

JMO, but I think that if you are a regular exerciser and enjoy it, and are ovulating regularly, then that's what your body is used to and there probably is no problem with keeping up the habit. I would not be inclined to embark on a whole new course of verystrenuous exercise at the same time as trying to conceive without realizing that it may take your body a little time to adjust.

Personally, what I've done is stopped running from ovulation to menstruation. I run during the other two weeks, but nothing strenuous. During the tww I take brisk hour-long walks, which I find really helpful for keeping in some kind of shape, and boosting my mood.

There's load of articles on line discussing this too:
