Experience of Champix for DH (stop smoking med)

Has anyone had any experience of smoking cessation drugs? Im 37weeks preg with our first and my dh is due to start taking champix at the weekend (wish hed started earlier but thats a WHOLE other story!) and i wondered if anyone has any direct experience?

I have no intention of googling this one! I do know of the black box warning (linking the pill to depression/sucidal thoughts in those who have had previous mental health issues) as DH is surrounded by doctors and will be monitored well!

So has anyone got any success stories? Or experiences where this med didnt work for them? How vital is support? Or the desire to quit? We know a couple of people who have tried champix and had varying degrees of success.

Im also looking for peoples experinences of when they took the medicine-morning or night? The pharmacist doesnt state a preference.

I tried it a few years ago and it didn't work for me at all, it makes flags taste awful but I still smoked !, however when I became pregnant a couple of years later much to my horror I still couldn't quit and the guilt was killing me so my mid wife suggested hypnotherapy , I was very dubious about it but desperatel to give up so I went to one session and I now haven't smoked for two years ! I've not used it myself, but I know a lot about it...
Champix *should* take away the physical craving of having a cig, but it doesn't do anything for the behavioural/habit side of things. Because of that, I'd say that support and the desire to quit are both very important.
Also, your dh needs to complete the full 12 weeks course of mess (as long as he doesn't have any side effects), otherwise he risks relapsing.
After 4 days, your dh will be taking 2 tablets per day - it's normally 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening, after food. He needs to leave 8 hours between each tablet.
