Any of you ladies on Mirena? This is what I'm suppose to be getting next week for BC. What are your experiences with it? Anyone fall pregnant while on it?

I know it's not the same but I had the copper coil fitted last week. The fitting was not as bad as I thought it would be, not comfortable but not painful really. I did feel a little faint afterwards which is normal so make sure you sit for a while after. I have been bleeding since but not too bad. Sorry I can't give u any experience of the mirena but I'm guessing the fitting is very similar xx

Yes I was told they are similar. My doctor recommended the Mirena over the copper coil because I usually have heavy periods so the coil would've just made them worse. From a few people I know that have or had Mirena hated it or it was uncomfortable.

I have had the Mirena for about 7 months. The insertion was really easy for me, no pain at all and only a few spots that day. I have not had a cycle yet but I am breastfeeding so that could be part of the reason. I have had no side effects at all. I haven't gotten pregnant but a haven't been really active either so can't say anything about that.

I was on Mirena for exactly a year. First 9 months were fine.

I have very heavy periods so was really happy when they practically stopped. Got to month 10 and following excruciating pain a continued to bleed on an off for 3 months. Had a lot of time off due to the pain.

I was checked to see if it had moved or pierced anything but it was fine. Got to a year and I had it removed. I will never have it again!!

I had a copper coil fitted a few months ago. No pain at all during fitting. I was at the end of my period so they said that was why it was so easy.

My periods have come back anyway, even though I'm breastfeeding. Same happened with my son, so unfair haha.

It has made my periods heavier, but they were heavy anyway so I don't mind much. It's been really good so far! They're only heavy for a few days anyway, no drama :).

I chose against the mirena as all hormonal things seems to make me into a perpetual grump, no idea why.

I had the implant for a while, ages ago, similar I think, hormone wise? That was fine for two years and then I had no period for three months, then a constant period for two months. Took it out. I'll stick with the copper coil I think.

Really seems perfect!

I don't know if all that helps really, but I didn't want read and run :)

I had the implant before too and it made me feel horrible and so tired so I had it removed.

I'm kind of second guessing getting it put it. Someone was telling me if you fall pregnant on it, it will result in a miscarriage? Guess I'm going to google to see what I can find.

Late to the party, but I had a spectacular experience with Mirena, so I figured I would share.

Prior to starting Mirena, I had extremely long and heavy periods - bleeding heavy enough to make me pass out 2-3 weeks of every 4. Since I had never been pregnant, I was nervous about the insertion.

Insertion was uncomfortable - cramping was fairly intense during the procedure, but mild for the next few days. After that, it stopped. I had irregular spotting for the first three months or so, then two more incidences of spotting over the rest of the first year. From then until four years after insertion, no spotting or bleeding, no discomfort, I couldn't even tell it was there except for when I needed to check the strings (which were left long enough to curl around my cervix, so you can't feel them unless you're trying to). It was a spectacular vacation from a decade of somewhat traumatizing menstrual cycles.

After four years, I decided to get pregnant, so I had Mirena removed. I waited through two (not miserable!, but not just spotting) 28-day cycles to make sure everything was normal, then had unprotected sex once*, and got pregnant.

Risks of any intrauterine device include miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy if the IUD fails, but the failure rate is incredibly low. I believe Mirena is an excellent option for those seeking hormonal birth control with minimal day-to-day effort on their part.

Good luck with your decision!

*I now understand why I have so many relatives.

I had the same *exact* experience with Mirena; just had it taken out Monday because we are planning to TTC in December. Your experience makes me hopeful about getting BFP!
