Hiya ladies i really need to boost my milk supply by expressing as when my little man feeds hes always hungry after and cries/struggles when feeding him like theres not enough milk there so have been advised to express as much as poss to boost my supply....

my Q is when i express no matter what time of the day i will only get between 1/2 ounce - 2 ounces in total for both breasts - if hes sept 6 hrs and i express ill get 2ounces from one breast whilst feeding him on the other but never anymore than this...

Basically if im expressing and nothing is coming out after 5 mins or so should i carry on or is it not worth sitting expressing invisible milk??lol

Than youuu

Hi, didn't want to read and run Hun, but are you sure you have low supply? My LO often gets fussy in the evenings and cluster feeds but that's what babies do. Is he pooing well/ wetting nappies and putting on weight?

Also, maybe there is a latch issue? Did you speak to a lactation consultant or HV? HV are often misinformed about BF. X

I think just the suction on your nipple will encourage production so I'd keep going...I think at my LLL meeting they said to go 5 mins past when it stops to encourage supply. Also regular oatmeal eating is supposed to help. GL

I think a few minutes of pumping after milk stops coming out is supposed to help boost supply but the amount you're able to express sounds about normal. From reading posts on here some women seem to be able to express gallons but most (me included) get around 2oz at a time. Like you I'll get most in the morning and not much at all once LO has been feeding during the day, although babies can get milk out way better than a pump so you may have more then you think.

Is your LO definately fussing due to hunger or could it be wind?

It's good to express for at least 5 minutes after the milk stops flowing to boost your supply. It might not be practical to do it after every expressing session but it's definitely worth it, so keep going whenever you can. :)

heya yep hes deffo hungry after he pulls on my nipple like mad and fusses so much and starts crying after hes got all he can out - i have checked after he feeds too and only a tiny, tiny amount of milk if anything comes out when i try and hand express so no wonder he gets frustrated .... i really feel like staying up all night when hes asleep for the 4-5 hours to express loads but i am just so tired at the minute im trying to sleep when i can so its a vicious circle really...
will just keep expressing loads over the next few days and hope that it makes a difference!!xxxxx
