His normal bowel movement pattern since birth is every three days. When we went on vacation, it increased to one today, and sometimes once every other day. Now that we're back home, he is back to having one every three days.

Today, however, he is on day four without a bowel movement. This has never happened before. He does not seem to be in pain. His abdomen is not rigid. He is not straining, nor does he have excess gas. He is fed a combination of breast milk and Similac sensitive formula. He has not been taking any more or less milk than usual.

Basically, I'm not sure if this extra day is a cause for concern. The only thing that's bothering me is the number of days that it has been since he's gone. Otherwise, he seems like his normal self. What do you ladies think?

my health visitor said every baby is different just like us. my daughter was the same. shes now 5 months and goes every day because shes on solids. i used to give her sips of cooled boiled water if i wanted her to go after a couple of days. it occasionally helped.

we threw alot of vests away when she was under 4 months because when she did go it was messy. xx

My pediatrician said that a BM after every feeding to 1 per week is in the normal range. My DD is down to 1-2 BMs per day even though she was a once after every feeding girl for a while. My nephew did a whole week stretch as an infant with no BM and my sister was told it was totally normal. Apparently babies begin to get very efficient and take exactly what they need. If you're still concerned, you should call your child's pediatrician.

Thank you both for responding. :) His pediatrition said the same thing when I brought it up when he was a newborn (multiple times a day to once a week is considered normal). I guess my concern was more about the pattern change. Regardless, he's has two bowel movements since I wrote the original post.
