Hi ladies, wondering if anyone else has dealt with this? I'm about 7 weeks along and have had two ultrasounds and two rounds of blood work done. The first was on December 2nd. My HCG levels came back around 1400 but my progesterone came back at 9.1. My doctor put me on Prometrium and scheduled me for a follow on December 13th. The blood work for that day came back with my HGC at 19,000.....however, my progesterone levels FELL to 7.3, this despite taking the prometrium religiously every night. The doctor has scheduled me for an ultrasound on Monday with a high risk specialist to see it the pregnancy is still viable. I have no idea what to be looking for or what to even ask. The waiting part is just so frustrating? I'm wondering if anyone here has taken prometrium and had it fail? Is 7.3 too low for a viable pregnancy?

Are they having you take it orally and if so, is the pill in a form that will allow it to be taken vaginally (some are)? If it's orally, that's not NEARLY as effective as vaginally because it has to go through your gut and some of the effectiveness is killed by stomach acid, AND it still has to get into your blood stream before it will get to your uterus to help. Vaginally is much MUCH faster and effective, doesn't travel through either the gut or bloodstream.

If you are already doing them vaginally, then I'd ask for either your dose to be upped or to be put on PIO shots. Fingers crossed for good news from tomorrow's u/s!

Hi dodgercpkl! I am currently only on an oral dose of 200mg 1Xdaily. My doctor has not discussed me taking it vaginally, I actually had no idea this was even an option. Because of a general lack of communication, we're considering looking for a new OBGYN.

As for an update for the ultrasound, we saw a heartbeat!!! I had completely prepared myself to see nothing but an empty sack. The sonographer gave us a hug and said this was a very good thing. We also got a bit a surprise when they found two very large fibroids, one of which is likely blocking my cervix. I posted a new thread for that particular finding. We'll have my progesterone and HCG tested again on Friday, at which time I'll ask about taking it vaginally. Is it the same pill, or a different prescription? Just wondering if I can use the same pill that I'm currently taking orally....it's a liquicap?

This pregnancy is SO different from that of my daughter, almost 18 years ago. Being 39 years old, they make you feel like you're in the geriatric crowd.....LOL!
