Anyone want to share?

How much yarn will I need for one cover? The yarn I am looking at getting comes in 4 oz skeins. Should I use thick yarn or thin yarn?

I am planning to crochet the covers since I like that better lately. Do you felt your covers?

Thanks for any help you can give :flow:

It depends what size soaker you are knitting, and what thickness of yarn you use. 1 50gm ball of DK is just enough for a newborn soaker in my pattern, and larger sizes will need more balls. You need to make sure the wool is 100% wool, and NOT machine washable wool. I personally prefer DK weight, as it is absorbent enough without being too bulky. I have written my own patterns which are a trade secret, but if you google 'Free nappy soaker patterns' you'll come up with loads.

Soakers tend to fel a little bit naturally, but I wouldn't felt deliberately, as it does make them less stretchy and harder.

Thank you.

I'm not sure what DK means. Sorry. I have been knitting and crocheting for as long as I can remember but I'm self taught and I don't follow patterns so I don't really know much about it all. :haha:

I was really only asking about patterns to get an idea on how much yarn I will need and how thick a yarn to use.

My little guy is about 11.5 lb now so I would like to make some covers that will last a while for him.

I was thinking the same thing about the felting, but I had read that some people do so I thought I would ask for opinions :)

This is the company I am going to order from. https://www.briggsandlittle.com I just don't know if I should get 4 ply or 2 ply yarn. I was thinking of getting some roving too because one pattern I found uses that. I'm really not sure what to get. Intuition tells me thicker yarn is better but I haven't used a soaker before and haven't even seen one other than on the computer.

Thanks again for your help :)

DK is double knitting weight, That's thicker than 4 ply, and thinner than Aran. I think that 4ply is probably nor absorbent enough, unless you want to make it double thickness, which is a lot more work for no more efficiency.
