When do they stop needing night feeds?

Alex will wake up around 1-2am and we have always fed him.
Last night he woke up at 2am and Rob just gave him his dummy back and he slept through till 8am, not a sound from him the rest of the night!

I dont want to stop feeding him overnight if he still needs it.

if he still needed it, he would have let u know hun!! Perhaps he is just crying for his dummy? Is he getting enough feed through the day?

A healthy 4 month old who is on a proper feeding routine during the day doesn't need feeding in the night. Ruby hasn't been fed in the night since she was 5 weeks old and she's on the 98th percentile for weight!

Phoebe feeds at 5am but she wont drink very much formula so I know she is hungry.

My LO dropped the 3am feed at around 3 months, if she wakes now she is just happy with the dummy!

Sophie hasnt had a night feed since she was about 3 months
She has 4 bottles during the day of aroun 6-8 ozs each and half a rusk mixed with her milk at her 5pm feed.

She weighs 15lb 13ozs and is just over 5 months old now and putting weight on at a nice rate

Thomas is 6 months old, nearly 7 and he still has a feed in the night. He has breakfast, jar for lunch and jar for tea as well as a 7-8oz bottle with each and snacks during the day, does that mean he's not healthy and not it a proper feeding routine??

Edited to say: Also Thomas is only on the 9th centile and he has been from birth and is following it nicely.

At the end of the day all babies are different and follow different centiles and feeding patterns so who are you to say a healthy four month old should be sleeping through on a 'proper feeding routine'

Freya always used to wake up at 4am for a feed, I have now started doing a dreamfeed at about 10pm and she sleeps 'til about 7am. (On a good day, it was 5.30 this morning, lol!) I know she is capable of sleeping 8-9 hours without a feed, but she likes to sleep for about 12 hours overnight, so def still needs a night feed of some kind. She will have 7oz as a dreamfeed and will drink 8oz very quickly in the morning so I know she is hungry at these times.

Also, I agree it is a bit harsh to imply that babies who do not need a night feed are not healthy!

:)

hmm maybe people misundestood me. i thought arcanegirl was talking about a physical need for a nightfeed. lots of babies will take a feed if offered when when they wake in the night, doesn't mean they actually need it.

lucky you AG!

Hannah was 6 months old before she went without a night feed ;)

We did this one night with tyler and from then on he always slept through :) Well Done Alex :) xx
