I've been breast feeding my daughter now since she was born 9 weeks ago. She's doing so well and growing as she should. I've had non stop problems since I had her with the breast feeding but I've stuck it out even though I constantly feel pain and that I'm ate dead end with it all. I've had mastitis twice and now I'm not sure if I've got thrush or a bad latch (although numerous health visitors, midwives etc say latch looks fine and she wouldn't normally thrive and put weight on if she wasn't getting what she needed. I was told by gp I had thrush a few weeks back but think I stopped treatment too quickly. I'm now using daktarin cream after each feed and have started putting the daktarin gel around inside of little ones mouth 4 times a day, does this sound ok? Should it clear up now I'm doing this? I'm so down, all I think about is the next feed and how much it's going to hurt. My husband said I've given it a great shot and should start bottles with her, think he's worried about me because I've just had no let up with the pain in one way or another since she was born. I bottle fed my son and he did perfectly well so I'm certainly not against it or anyone that does it. It's a personal choice totally. I just can't work out why this is working for me and I really wanted to give it a go. I'm really getting down over it. Is the daktarin gel ok to apply round her mouth 4 times a day? It won't harm her? Thanks.

I don't know what that gel is so I can't say if it is correct. I can say that I have had a lot of pain with BF and it does get better. It is up to you and how strongly you want to continue. Good luck!

Just feel like bawling my eyes out. The right side is worse. Don't know what to do, tried to feed baby on that side earlier and nearly screamed. How can I carry on with it? I'm in such a state over it. I have a 3 yr old and really feel like he's missing out on my time too.

oh :hugs: I'm not sure about the gel, i had thrush but was given nystatin for the baby and had to take diflucan, an antifungal pill every day for 2 weeks. you should make an appt for your dr to get some more advice.and maybe stronger meds. good luck hun xx

ps thrush will often cause a bad latch and lots of pulling off. if you get the thrush cleared you may find the latch improves. don't forget to wash everything on very hot water and a hot dry.cycle daily to prevent reinfection. especially bras, nursing pads, towels and whatever comes near babys mouth. you can sterilize pacifiers etc by boiling them for 10.mins

I'm still battling thrush, which basically started at the hospital. Nothing seems to be working quickly for me at all. I've tried Clotrimazole, Grapefruit seed extract, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, and am now on gentian violet. If gentian violet doesn't work then I will tell my OB to give me Diflucan. If all of that doesn't work then I will have to drastically change my diet to only vegetables and meat. I wish I could go out in the sun more, but it is really friggin' hot right now in California.

You have to treat thrush for 10 dAys after all symptoms are gone. Get on a Hugh quality probiotic with at least 5 different strains. Ask at the health store. I have a ton of info in thrush if you need to just pm me. Cutting out sugar and bread from your diet for 2 days is also a big help.

Hi, how's the thrush treatment going? I'm having the same prob with my 5wk old although the pain isn't as bad as yours sounds and the dr has said he's clear but I'm not so sure..
