I'm feeling a little gutted well to be honest. A lot.. about not being able to have the dream nursery I wanted for peanut. I know it's not all about the money etc and all the things peanut needs in the first year or so of life is; love, food, warmth and cuddles.

But I love decorating and getting little nick nacks for the house and I'd love even moreso to have a cool nursery.

We rent our house and it's yellow. Even though we're expecting a yellow bump. I would have liked to painted the room a cool colour.

Also due to money being very tight and OH seeing the babies room as our room for the first year. Which at the moment seems the best plan, just needing to buy a cotbed and using the chest of drawers we've got at the moment as their changing top (I've got a wedged changing mat) instead of buying a tallboy etc which are really expensive for the time LOs use them form!

We're hoping to save for a deposit for when peanut is around 3 or just beofre starting school so we well I can go ott on decorating their first room but every school term they'll want a new room due to the new characters out at the time!

Anyone else feel/felt the same due to money/room issues etc?

Can you not ask your landlord if you can paint the room another colour? That doesn't need to be expensive.
We also live in a rented property and were allowed to decorate.

I have to say not really......

We live in a rented flat too and the spare room/2nd bedroom will eventually become the babys room. The whole flat is white and we're not really supposed to paint it (although I think it would be ok if it was a good job), but I'm happy with that colour anyway. A paint job really doesn't matter to me, and I've learnt to deal with the colour schemes and work with them. Baby will be in with us for the first 6 months anyway, as recommended.

You could work with the yellow scheme and accessorize with bright yellow ducks and some green too? Like a garden/pond kinda theme??

You could put up vinyl stickers to decorate room in a theme. We rent our house and have went with decorating our room with vinyl stickers, they are completely removeable and dont harm painted walls at all :D xxx

We asked our realeastate who inturn asked our agent and they gave us permission to paint the nursery.

I know the landlady would be cool with the decore and the sticker things etc.. but knowing us me and OH will be moving sooner then we think if I decorate! So all the decore etc and its got to be done again if we get a house of our own?!

Hi! Stopping by from the TTC forums :)

I am renting an apartment and can't paint the walls either! I have seen a really cool idea, and you could totally do it on a budget! Take large strips of fabric and put them in large plain picture frames around the room :) It adds a splash of extra color but obviously doesn't impede on any rental agreements.

It's what I'm doing when I get my own little peanut! :D

Maybe pin up huge swaths of cloth, or tapestries, or sheets with good colors? I have a thing for gypsy decor though. All you need are staples and/or thumbtacks.

i think if decorating a nursery is so important to you and if it would bring you a lot of pleasure to do it then it doesnt matter if youll maybe be moving at some point :)
if you cant paint then pretty much anything else youll do will be able to move with you when you do and if you enjoy it so much it just means youll have a reason to re-decorate...

It sometimes bothers me when I see lovely nurseries that other people have decorated. It's not so much the decorating though as having a room that is just for baby things. Our second bedroom which will become baby's room has wardrobes and drawers with our things in and not all of them can be gotten rid of or found new homes for (our house has almost no built in storage, no garage and we can't access the loft) so it just makes me sad that that room isn't going to be the baby's room.

I'll just have to hope that by the time they're old enough to care about their room we'll have bought a house and they can have a room of their own with only their stuff and decorated nicely.

I feel gutted because me and OH live in a one bedroom flat so our baby won't have a room at all :(

That's too bad, I understand wanting to make a special place for your baby. I think people have made lots of good suggestions, and I think it's going to be amazing to save your money and really WOW your LO with a room they love a few years down the line.

I know the feeling. We are allowed to do paint our flat whichever color we want but it is a one (big) bedroom flat so we won't have a proper nursery. Like i have said, it is quite big so we won't be moving straight away but that will save us some money.

I know the feeling. My oh and I rent a two bed flat but he works from home and that room is his office, so it will have to be an office/nursery for a while, and I don't know what we'll do afterwards. We won't be able to buy our own place and I doubt we'll be able to afford to rent a 3 bedroom place. In fact, I get very concerned my oh will flip out from working from home, he'll look for a new job and it'll almost certainly be considerably lower paid and I don't know what we'll do!

Oh crap, I've scared myself now!!
