This morning LO woke at 6 am and was hungry. She fell asleep after eating, and since she usually wakes for the day around 7 or 7:30 I took her into bed with me thinking we would be up shortly. She pooped shortly after she fell asleep, but since I thought we would be up in half an hour I just left it so she could get a bit more sleep. Well we both fell asleep and didn't wake up until 9:30 am! She slept for 3 hours in a poopy diaper, and when I changed her she had a little rash on her bum, she has never had diaper rash before. I cracked a new container of rash cream and put it on her bum. Then this afternoon I loaded her in the stroller and we went for a walk. We got about an hour away from home and she had fallen asleep so I sat on a bench in the woods to read a book while she slept. She woke a half hour later so we headed for home, and she pooped again! I reached into the stroller and realized that I had forgotten to grab the travel diaper change kit, so I couldn't change her diaper! She had to sit in her poopy diaper for an hour until we got home. It didn't seem to bother her, she fell asleep on the way home, but the poor thing has a full on rash now. I feel like a crappy, irresponsible mom.

You're not a crap mum :hugs:

Everyone forgets! Don't beat yourself up, as you said she didn't seem bothered and her rash will heal xxx

You're not a bad mum. I think we've all done this.

When my daughter was about 6 months I took her to a family lunch. She pooped at the start of the lunch and I was soooooo tired I forgot she'd pooped (really awful excuse but she was a terrible sleeper - I was still only getting 4 to 6 hours of broken sleep a night). I mean I just completely forgot. I felt terrible. She didn't get changed for 2 hours.

It's not like you do it all the time and on purpose.

Happened to me lots of times! Especially when she does one of those phantom poops that somehow DON'T SMELL. Just whack a load of Sudocrem or other healing cream on it and it'll be sorted in no time. :)

You're not a crap mum! Don't beat yourself up about it.
I've had this happen a fair few times. Easily done when they don't smell or you get distracted. I was once sure I'd changed his bum and it wasn't until he'd been screaming for ages for no apparent reason I realised. Felt awful. He must have been in it for a good couple of hours 😟

Don't worry about it, everyone does it! I have also went out without my nappy bag a few times or forgot vital items from it.

For the rash I recommend metanium. Its excellent (sudocream sucks)

Lol depends on the LO. When mine was born she pooped so frequently that she had red raw patches of skinless flesh, and I used Metanium religiously for about a week with no joy ... then a HV recommended Sudocrem and it was gone in about three days!

Really? A dermatologist I spoke to told me that sudocream is just for the scent really and has no clinical ingredients for nappy rash but is great for acne. She even went as far as to say it should be taken off the shelfs?

Was it metanium barrier cream you used or the yellow thick stuff that you can only get st the pharmacy?

Hehe, really.

Even now I find it heals a sore/red bottom with the beginnings of a rash within hours. It's also great on LO's skin behind her knees when it gets very weepy or cracked with eczema, though we're getting on top of that now. Looking at the ingredients, among others, it has zinc oxide in it, which is fantastic for healing and irritation (they say to spread zinc oxide cream on your bum if you have worms and are itching :haha:) and it also has lanolin, which, assuming you're not allergic to it, is a good emollient and has soothing properties. I think it's the base of the nipple cream Lansinoh. And yeah it also has a synthetic lavender scent, which I've always wondered about as I would have thought that would be an irritant, but we've never had any issues.

We used the yellow Metanium and it stained EVERYTHING, but didn't help surprisingly - I had read amazing things about it.

Metanium stains are horrific! Especially when you see a yellow smudge on clothes and think it is a poonami then you are relieved to see it is just metanium! Lol!

:haha: All her old 6-9 months clothes have faint yellow stains around the neck from where we tried using it on a rash she had in her neck folds.

Haha! I only use it on her bum. She gets dodgy neck rashes but we use epiderm on them. She's in 3-6m clothes now but most of her clothes are totally ruined. Weaning is fun lol.

Ours still has an intermittent neck rash at 21 months ... I wish my kid had great skin!

Haha I hated weaning so much, I'm so glad she is finally happily eating three meals a day with her own spoon and fork!

Thanks guys, her rash already looks much better today. I've forgotten that she has pooped before because we like to wait and make sure she is finished before we change her, but I've never let her sit in it for more than half an hour. Feeling better about it today now that she is healing quickly.

That's great. :) Sorry we hijacked your thread a bit! :haha:

TOTALLY second using Metanium, it clears the rash up really quickly.

When ds was about 8 months old he pooped & it was one of those one's that you don''t smell, he must have been sitting in it for a couple of hours & had the worst rash ever, blisters with yellow pus :( I felt so so terrible! The rash stayed around for a few days & was everywhere (it was teething poop too, so really acidy). Thankfully was pretty much the only rash he ever had.

I won't use anything other than sudocream for nappy rash its the only thing ive found that works.
