Hi,

I had my baby via EMCS four days ago and since I have felt periodically faint and dizzy. My lochia is not heavy at all and my iron levels are very slightly low so I'm on iron tablets. I'm breastfeeding and my milk came in yesterday. Today during feeding this afternoon my ears started ringing and I thought I was about to faint. I had DH bring me a biscuit which helped. I'm also very slightly out of breath at times. Sometimes after doing something, sometimes while sitting doing nothing. I have developed a slight cough since the birth so I don't know if it's because of the general anaesthetic or if the cough is just a bug I was going to get anyway.

Have anyone else experienced these symptoms following their birth?

Thank you xx

i was really exhausted in general and had a cold before my emcs so I couldn't tell what was from surgery or not....are you feeling better? you may be dehydrated from breastfeeding, also I read before about some women who get nauseous or dizzy when their milk lets down. if you feel very poorly you should probably call your OB anyway

I had dizziness and fainting for a few months after my LO was born, but after my EMCS my hB was 5.5 and I didn't have a blood transfusion. Are you taking some vitamin C with your iron tablets? It helps the iron absorb. I also found with breastfeeding, my blood sugars dropped as I wasn't eating enough, and I didn't drink enough. Perhaps get checked out by your doctor. Hope you feel better soon :flower:

Thank you for your responses. I spoke to my midwife about it and she said it's most likely the mild anaemia, but that it can be normal after a general. I'm certainly feeling a lot better now, just a bit nauseous from the iron tablets. Just making sure I take it easy and eat if I feel faint which helps massively.

Thanks again x

I had this after my c-section and I was feeling pretty terrible. I had lost a lot of blood during the surgery. They ended up doing a blood count and it came back seriously low to the point that if I were in a car accident on the way home from the hospital, if I lost blood, I would probably die because I didn't have enough blood in my body. So in the end I ended up having 2 blood transfusions before leaving the hospital. You might want to get your blood count checked, just to make sure! Hope you feel better!
