So last week my dh and I went to the docs to start the tests on why we havent had a :bfp: yet, she is doing all the normal blood tests for me and also testing dh spermies.

She gave him his pot with the instructions to adstain for 2-3 days then produce his swimmers on the pot and take it straight to the lad for testing. So this morning he did just that (I couldnt go with him as I am too ill in bed) but when he got to the lab they said that he should of filled the pot there not at home as he has probably killed them off on the journey and time of getting there. But they took them for checking anyway.

When he got home he was soooooo dishearten that he got it wrong and would propbably now have dead floaters. I have told him to get another doc appt next week to do another test (we was going to have to wait until Jan for all the results at once) and not to worry about it as if there is a problem with this sample we know the possible cause.

I was going on like it was the end of the world etc, I didnt but really wanted to put it into context for him, producing his spermies is hardly a horrible job and if there is a problem next week we will know why. Whereas women have to be prodded and poked with needles and god knows what else, show there lady bits to god knows who etc etc and do we moan about it noooooooo!!!

Sorry for the pointless thead!

Poor DH! Thats right, if the test is no good then he can just go again.

Men are whingers aren't they?!? My DH stresses about producing samples, he's had heaps of tests and then had to hand his boys over for ICSI and bless him, he stressed about it like it was the worst thing ever. Meanwhile i've had more instruments shoved up me than I care to remember...all dignity lost, poked, prodded, needled 1001 times etc.

I honestly don't think they could cope if the roles were reversed!!!

Hi

We live 1 hour away from the hospital and when my DH did the test the lab said as long as it is under 2 hours thats ok. Although saying that results were slightly on the low side and I wondered if we got there sooner if this would have made the difference.

We went to the docs today to get dh sperm results, they said they are all on the very low side and he has to repeat the tests incase the trip to the lab had killed some off. This time he has to do the sample at the lab.

Could the trip really kill that many off do you think, or has he really got a low count?

I tried to sensitively talk to him about it, and asked him if he would start taking his vits (I brought him a pot of 30, 12 months ago and there is still 29 sat in the pot!!!), he just had a right go at me and told me to stop going on! I am in such a bad mood now, he seems more then happy when he thinks the problem is me (which we know it also is as I have very low estrogen!)

Men!

We only live 5 mins from the hospital so my other half did his SA at home, and we were told to keep it warm and bring it straight in-Felt really sorry for him though as even at home he felt really under pressure to produce the sample, in fact, on the way there, he even went as far to say that he felt 'violated'......hehe, poor thing, it's not easy, but then when i think of the whole IVF procedure, it pretty much balances things out 'just a little!!'
xxxx

should be fine to bring it over if you live a hour away from the lab but you must keep the sample in contact with your skin or his skin like under the arm or near your stomach...

Ditto. I was told the same by my doc. If you live close by just keep it in a pocket or similar and that should be fine, timewise..within and hour or so.

I know we moan a lot about the guys and their whinginess..but i have to agree i would find it a bit difficult to perform on command, too.. lol!! (i promise i am not breaking ranks!!! Just saying... :))

That sucks that he has to do it again, but like has been said, it is much easier for men. I remember when we were having trouble conceiving our first, DH had to have his swimmers checked as well. Our hospital told us he needed to do it at home and have them to the lab within 20 minutes. Luckily, it wasn't a very large city but we did have to race across town to get them there in time. I can't imagine explaining that to the cops.

Well he has decided that next Wednesday is round 2! The time between doing his first sample and getting it to the lab was about 2 hours and it just sat on the side or in his pocket in that time so certainly wasnt kept at room temp. This could explain why his count etc was very low, we will just have to wai until the 7 Jan for the nxt set of results!

I really do feel for him cause although he knows why the sample could of been low it cant be nice for a male to hear it, bless him.

Hey, we have done 2 SA's so far and were told that as long as it's at the lab within 2 hours it's not a problem - fingers crossed the results are all good :hugs:

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories! My DH has to have his spermies checked out for the first time this month. When I broke the news to him, he said he felt sick to his stomach and was so nervous. He said he would get over it though...it just makes him feel weird. I dont blame him though. My doc told me to make sure we get it to the lab within 30 minutes. We dont live too far away..but we will def be cutting it close. Never thought of keeping it warm tho. Ill make sure he keeps it close to his own body temp. Thanks!

Mt DH had this week had major stage fright!! took him ages to do a sample, I had to go out in the end apparently was making it worse!! did feel sorry for him, suppose we get practice from our first smear in being "violated" lol bless them, they have a completely different standadr of humiliation !!!
