Fertile Focus saliva scope

Hi girlies,

I just had to post about the fertile focus saliva scope! I bought one the other day and i'm really pleased with it! I needed a way to detect when ovulation is occuring and the ovulation sticks are so expensive when you have long irregular cycles. So I thought i'd try something a bit different and use my saliva instead.

When a woman is about the ovulate, the rise in oestragon makes the saliva appear in a fern like pattern under a microscope. It arrived yesterday so I tried it - I had partial ferning or 'transitional' as the instructions call it. This indicates ovulation may occur within 3-4 days. I tested this morning and I had full ferning! It was so clear couldnt believe it! This means ovulation is about to occur or is occuring. So as soon as OH gets home....

I just wanted to make women aware of this option who may not be aware of it. It costs about £20 and is reusable for up to 2 years, so much cheaper in the long run that the OPKs.

There are limitations and the instructions do say it may not work for all women, just as the OPKs don't, but I think its def worth a go. Plus some amazon reviewers said they'd used it to see OH sperm! Worth it just for that surely lol, I cant wait to see them all swimming around

If you decide to buy one, it says it can be used any time of day but I think you'd be better off using it first thing before you brush your teeth or eat. Also it says leave it for 5 mins to dry but you're better off waiting longer. I waited 20 mins this morning before mine was completely dry. Lastly, take a sample of saliva from under your tongue as its fresh saliva.

Do you spit or lick the lens?Sorry for the question but I have a big problem with that. I don't understand how much saliva is need to put on the lens.

Hi Tupi, i've just been getting some saliva on my finger from under my tongue and just dabbing a bit of it on the lense and then waiting for it to dry, seems to work fine! Very distinct ferning pattern for me today You don't need alot of saliva, but its hard to explain how much I use. I just do it so the lense is covered, you need a decent amount but not so much that it takes hours to dry if that makes sense.

Hi AriesMom, yeah you may as well, can't do any harm right? I'm going to start temping as well just for a bit of extra confirmation and I will get some ov sticks but ONLY use them when I get the ferning pattern on the scope, just to confirm. Things should be a heck of a lot cheaper now i'm not just randomly peeing on expensive sticks and hoping for the best! lol xx

Hey i got one and don't ue it that often. but you've just inspired me to go back. I never knew when to use it but i'm gonna stick with the morning. i agree with you about the drying time. i think it takes ages. when i did it first and tried it after five mins it didn't work cos i didn't wait long enough.

Hi nuffmac, glad I inspired you I'm keeping mine by my bed so first thing in the morning I can do my temp, put a dab of saliva on the scope and by the time I'm washed and dressed it'll be dry. I found mine dried today in about 20 mins.

I want to upload a pic but i'm not sure how. Would you be able to zoom in on here to see the pattern? Bit of a technophobe lol x x

Oh no I mean I took a pic of what I could see down the scope, its on my phone and when I zoom in its a full on fern fest! Wondered if you can zoom in on here? x

I can see it!!! Great pic. If you click on it it opens up and you can zoom in on the actual page. But to be honest can see the ferning anyway its so clear!! I'm a few days from OV day. Happy bding to you XXX

Here is the sample I got this morning, just so you can see the difference. I think its transitional. Although there arent ferns, there are crystals, and the instructions say if there are crystals or ferns its transitional. So that makes sense as I had full ferning yesterday.

Just for reference for anyone interested! Will post a non fertile one when I get one x

I have the scope and have been using it. I haven't had major ferning yet, but have had a few transitional days. I agree u really do have to wait for longer than 5 mins. I looked after 5 mins and nothing. I looked and later it was transitional. Helps to see what full ferning looks like. Thanks for the picture. I use it along with temping and the instead cup. Hope we all recieve our bfps soon!

I have an OPK strongly positive but NO fern on my ovulite. I told you ,I don't know how to spit into my microscope

Lol they say some women don't fern hun, something to do with the level of hormones. If your OPK is strongly positive I'd go with that

Got another transitional this morning, I won't post a pic its pretty much the same as yesterday, except with a few faint ferns thrown in.
I have started temping, started yesterday my temp was 36.01, and today my temp is 36.32. I know it prob doesnt mean anything as I started mid cycle just randomly lol but you never know! I'll keep at it and hope it makes sense.

We didn't BD yesterday i'm beginning to think we should have in case the temp rise means anything - we BD'd the day before though when I got full ferning. We'll have to do it today and hope for the best! xx
