Well we had our appointment today with the consultant. I was all ok with my bits and pieces, but DH has low sperm. We found out the full picture of this - 2% morphology (needs 15%), 44% viability (needs 75%), but he has 18 million of them!!!!! DH hasn't taken the news well at all, I keep telling him he wasn't so good at the time and not to worry. He got upset because he feels that its his fault that this is happening. He also stressed when we were told that if the next results were ok I would go onto clomid, and that there was an increased risk of cancer.

Anyway, I have bought him some zinc and we are going to look at other lifestyle changes we can do. I think I will give it a few days for us both to get our heads round the new situation and then have a good chat about it.

Thanks for being there for us, it really does mean a lot knowing I can come on here and that someone will understand

Sinead i thought of you today:hugs:
like you said take sometimes to digest all the info they gave you and then you move forward ...everything will be ok darling:hugs:

:hugs: My DH had a bad result first time, but like you we made some lifestyle changes, started taking vitamins and he switched from briefs to boxers...it greatly improved the quality of his sperm. So this is only a small hurdle sweetie, you guys will get past this! :hugs:

Hey Sinead

So sorry chick - know exactly how you feel or my DH does anyway!

What did the GP suggest and have they suggested when he can have another SA?

Colds/flu type symptoms can affect the SA if he has been poorly or under the weather in the last 3 months, as can certain meds.

My DH is taking wellman tablets as well as 1000mg of effervescent vit c, 2 x maca a day. He only drinks a couple of bottles of beer a week and he wears baggy boxers and dosn't have hot baths now.

Hope the re-test shows a good improvement for you guys x x x

Hey hun, sorry they came back bad, will he have to do another one in a few months so see if it has improved??

Thinking of you and dh xxx

Thanks everyone

We have the retest booked for 16th Jan next year - seems like ages away, but you have to wait 3 months after doing the 1st one otherwise the sperm could be coming from the same group.

Anyway, we have decided just to enjoy Christmas and then think about it the new year as no point worrying about it till then.

Sorry to hear about your DH sperm test results :hugs::hugs: The good thing is that something can be done about it and that by taking supplements and making simple lifestyle changes his count can dramatically improve. Also remember, if he uses laptops not to let him put it on his lap as that could fry the little buggers! I get my OH to put a cushion, book or tray between his lap and the laptop or better still to use the table for his laptop!

But what is it with men hey? They just can't take bad news and especially if its about their manhood! I mean just think about all the tests us women have to be put through and we keep ploughing on......when my OH got his SA results back we looked at it in such a hurry all we saw was the 15% morphology...I joked that 85% of his sperm were abnormal and boy did he go into a depression! I felt so bad and said we don't know what the figures mean...he said he had never got below 60% in anything.....like at school....and in his degree

Omigod, I then had to be really sympathetic to him and looked at the paper properly before I realised that it only had the WHO recomendations on them and that his results weren't even on there! So we had to book an appoitnment to have the results.

When we went yesterday, the dr told him all his levels and the range that they should be which is what we got on the paper ....you could hear my OH's brain ticking ......he was quiet before he said 'so dr.....does that mean that all my results show that my sperm are above average at all levels?' The dr said yes.........my OH could not contain himself!! He was so relieved!!! He was skiping out of the consultation room!

Well it has taught me that men cannot take bad news and if he had low sperm boy the news would have made it even worse for him! I'm just glad there is something wrong with me and not him!
