Fertility problems

We started TTC #2 in June of 2009. Since then we have had 5 mcs. I have chronic endometritis, luteal phase defect, low progesterone, polyps, and am a carrier for MTHFR. My husband has a slightly higher than normal level of mutated sperm. I dont seem to have a problem getting pregnant but cant seem to stay pregnant. My dr put me on birth control for 2 months and 2000mg of metformin. Has anyone been put on metformin without having PCOS or diabetes? I thought that was odd.
Also we have had all the tests done that they offer. The last mc we had they did all the testing on the baby too and found it was a normal healthy baby girl and had no explanation for the loss.

i have no advice for your condition as my situation is quite different but i just wanted to say hi and let you know there is some support out here for you...
Good luck honey :)

I am so sorry for your losses Ashley. It sounds like you have a very complicated medical history. Have you ever taken L-methylfolate during any of your pregnancies for your MTHFR?

Does your doc put you on any type of blood thinners after a +hpt? With MTHFR, you just might need it to help prevent a miscarriage.

Sorry you're struggling so much.

The MTHFR is a new diagnosis. Actually found out when I was pregnant with my last one. They did not put me on anything and led me to believe it was no big deal. It was only after my loss that I researched it. :(

I doesn't have to be a big deal if treated properly.
But, it could be the cause for your miscarriages.

I'd get a new doctor if this one isn't taking it seriously.
:hugs:

Ashley,

I am so sorry for your losses. Readyformore is right and I admire the fact that you are doing your own research. There are many doctors who are not willing to be proactive in their treatment of MTHFR, even in women with multiple losses like you. Obviously, you have other issues but MTHFR is something you can treat in a simple and safe way.

Because you are heterozygous for the MTHFR polymorphism, you have a limited ability to break down synethetic folic acid into its usable form, L-methylfolate. This increases your risk for folate deficiency induced pregnancy complications. I work with NeevoDHA, a prenatal specifically indicated for women with MTHFR. You might want to do some research on L-methylfolate (found in NeevoDHA, Metanx & Deplin, to name a few). L-methylfolate is the natural, active, broken-down form of folate which bypasses the MTHFR mutation. It increases blood folate levels and decreases homocysteine levels more effectively than synthetic folic acid. Taking L-methylfolate is something simple and safe you can to to ensure that your folate status is adequate while trying to conceive and when pregnant.

I hope you are able to find an OB who is willing to be proactive in your treatment. I am sorry for everything you have been through and I wish for you a healthy and happy pregnancy in the near future.

If you have MTHFR mutation, it depends on degree of mutation. Some women take only baby aspirin, others need fragmin or heparin as blood thiner. Your miscarriages are obviously due to mutation. Please, first visit hematologist and ask for therapy.

Hi, sorry for your losses, I just wanted to come and say that a friend of mine had 4 m/c and it was only when she saw a different specialist (private as we're in the UK and the limited NHS tests didn't discover the problem) that she found out she just had to take some tablets every day and she had a perfectly healthy pregnancy. Sorry I can't remember what she had but just wanted to let you know that seeing the right doctor can make all the difference (we're also having problems TTC for different reasons but the thing she said was most important was to take control of your fertility and not just accept what you are told if you feel it is not right - get another opinion - as she just spent 2 years having m/c before getting properly tested)
:hugs: and good luck xx
