Does anyone use one of these? I just bought one for piece of mind. My son passed away at 39+5 last June due to the cord being around his neck. I'm so paranoid this time.
I am 16 weeks at the moment and my doppler has kept me sane, especially this morning when I had awful cramping. For me it has been a worthwhile purchase, however I know you do need to be cautious too as you don't always pick up a heartbeat and if you don't it doesn't mean there is anything wrong so can lead to unnecessary worrying (my midwife warned me that I wouldn't get checked out over not hearing a heartbeat on my doppler).
I have been lucky enough to hear the heartbeat every time I have checked so for me it has been good. I guess it all really depends on the pregnancy and where the baby is lying (e.g. if it is easy to pick up).
You can hire them, I am hiring mine for £9.95 month (though I may buy one if I need it longer) so maybe you could hire one to start with and see how you get on? If you find you can pick the heartbeat up very easily then you can make the decision to buy one, and if you don't pick it up then maybe it isn't the best idea for you as it would only cause unecessary worry. (You could also even try it for the frist few times just before a scan so if you can't find heartbeat you aren't worrying for long that something is wrong).
I got one on ebay for 57$. Its a Sonoline B with a 3mhz probe and I was able to hear my baby girl from 11weeks on. Mind you that im a "fluffy" gal to, so it was powerful enuf to work through all the fat Love dopplers. Kept me sane after 2 losses.
