Has anyone had to have one because of GD?

My midwife kind of just said "Oh, I'm gonna send you for a scan to check the baby's heart." and didn't say much more.

Now, it's a week away and I've been researching (I shouldn't have!) and all I can see is horror stories and quite bad statistics..

I mean her heart always looks perfect on every scan I've had.. but they aren't LOOKING for abnormalities, so?

Experiences? xx

I'm pretty sure I had several as I went to the MFM for FVL, GD, and pre-e risk. Mine were always 100% healthy. As long as GD is tightly controlled it shouldn't adversely affect the baby.

They do normally check the heart for abnormalities during the same scan that you can tell gender, if I remember correctly. Hopefully all is well with your LO! :)

You're right, they do! But this is a separate scan where they look at just the heart in even more detail than the anomaly. Thanks hun x

Not sure about the machines that they'll use for you, but they did some pretty cool stuff with checking blood flow for my 2nd big anatomy scan. I have the double whammy of GD and being 'old' (35), so I've had several thorough scans.

The blood flow one is pretty cool because they image shows colors (artificially added), and it gets really detailed around the chambers of the heart.

Going into that scan I didn't even know they'd be looking at the heart, as I had thought it was a normal growth scan just for measuring, but it may have been scheduled for the same reason as yours!

Hope you can relax during your wait; waiting is always the worst!

Aww yeah, I know what you mean! They showed me that at 12 weeks, too. I think they used orange and green for mine, haha :)

I guess at 20 weeks it's much more detailed though! And then in a fetal echo.. even more so!

I have a good feeling she's fine, so staying positive! xx
