Has anyone had a fetal echocardiogram done? I am scheduled for one May 24. Although everything looked good at the anatomy scan today I was offered the test because I take seizure medication that can increase the baby's chance for heart issues. I figure I might as well get the extra testing done to be sure. Is the echocardiogram like a regular ultrasound? Does it take longer? Any extra preparations? Thanks!!

hi:) a fetal "echo" is Very similar to a regular ultrasound,
I had one done last week.
Sometimes it can take a LOT longer, it all depends on the position of the baby!
Mine was VERY good and it only took five mins!

Good luck!

Thank you for the info! How did your echo go? I hope it went well.

It went super well.
Doctors say they dont see anything "major"
But the doctor also said that there was no way to see a "minor" issue..
not exactly thrilled with that answer, but I was very happy.:happydance:

Congrats- that is good to hear! I can see being uneasy with the second part- but nothing major is great! I find it amazing that they can do fetal echos and see so much.

I did due to Wolff-Parkinsons-White Syndrome. (heart condition)

totally like an extra scan and caught me by surprise! Had to run out and get my OH so he could see too :-P

look at it as a positive thing :) enjoy seeing bubba again xxx

I agree, I will not complain about getting extra scans! I just wish the echo and 20 week ultrasound were more then a week apart. I start to worry between appointments (crazy I know, lol).
