Hey girls, I'm in a bit of a panic right now and just wondered if anyone else has felt this ....

This morning I felt what can only be described as my baby having 2 epileptic fits.
OH felt this too as his hand was on my belly at the time. The sensation was so different from the usual kicking that I get, and also different from the more rythmic thuds of hiccups. It felt like really strong vibrations for about 8 seconds on one side of my belly, altho I could also feel lighter vibrations on the other side too. It then happened again about a minute later.

Is it possible for babies to have seizures while in the womb? Only, I'm really worried now because OH's mum and his sister both have epilepsy (controlled with drugs) and I'm panicking that our baby has it too :(

Am I worrying over nothing? Baby is kicking me while we speak in her usual way and I havent felt anything since. One other thing to add... we'd just had :sex:. Could it be linked?

I'm in such a state now worrying, wondering wether I should call my MW or go up to the hospital.

Hi Mynx,
not sure sorry. I think if you are really worried then you should definitely call the midwife and see what they say.

I've had that a few times. Weird feeling but I quit worrying about it because she goes back to moving like normal. Like polaris said, if it's really worrying you, just give the midwife/doctor a call.

You may be feeling the Uterus going through a fit of spasms. If any of you have ever exercised to the point where your muscles seem to "quake" or "shake", this is the same thing for the Uterus. It is getting a constant workout by the Braxton-Hicks contractions. And we don't always know when we are having Braxton-Hicks Contractions...but they are purposefully to "exercise" the uterus for labor and delivery. Since all of our timelines are late in the pregnancy, we've probably been experiencing these contractions for many weeks now, which would explain the uterine muscle spasms.

nicked that off another site! hope it helps! xx

I dnt know if ive felt what you have, but ive kinda had something like that, just feels like shes shaking ? but ive just put it down to some sort of movement shes doing inside there, all my scans have been fine so nothing to worry me. But if it puts your mind at rest call mw, they can give you reassurance :D x

Ooooh! That makes a lot of sense! Considering Braxton Hicks start WAY early in the pregnancy, it makes sense that it could spasm a bit here and there.

i have been feeling the same kinda thing aswell x

That actually does make a lot of sense and seeing as it happened after doing the deed, then yeah, it's probably just that then. Phew! Thanks for finding that Bana, that's really put my mind at rest.
I just panicked as I'd never felt anything like it before! She usually kicks the crap out of my insides when she gets going but nothing like that. And yeah it was kinda like shaking? Very odd sensation indeed!

Thanks again girls, it's also good to know that I'm not the only one feeling these weird shakings! I dunno what I'd do without this site I really dont.. I know for sure tho that my MW would be VERY fed up with me by now!

Ive felt that a few times...its a strong vibration that feels just like a muscle quivering.

I have had feelings simular to that. Like you I panic because my DH's brother has severe epilepsy which has lead to him having very bad learning difficulties. The truth is though that I had it in my first two pregnancies too and both of those are currently happy and healthy and just annoying the hell out of me by fighting at the moment lol.

It is probably just your babies doing the startle reflex in the womb you know that thing newborns do when they suddenly throw their arms out and shake their hands?my LO does this and its the strangest feeling.

Aww bless !! Yes, this would make sense too!
I dont think I'm going to be bothering the MW with this, I'll just mention it at my next appointment.

Thanks again ladies :) xXx

Sounds like this may be normal due to all the responses you are getting. :hugs:

Yeah seems like it Shaunanicole. She's moving around just fine now, giving my ribs a good kicking at the moment, and the weird spasms didnt hurt, they just felt ... different.. strange lol. And because of my OH's family history of epilepsy, I just panicked. Bloody hormones! :dohh:

Glad that you are feeling more relaxed about it - it definitely sounds normal from all the responses. Pregnancy is just great for making you worry about stuff isnt' it?

Tell me about it hun! I havent felt any more wierd shakings today, just the normal kicks in the ribs that she's been doing more and more bless her :)

How are you Polaris hun, it's been a while! xXx

A little late but, i get these too!
Feels a little bit like bubs is trembling! Odd! She goes back to normal afterwards though, so, not too worried!
xx

I think I may know what you are talking about, then again, perhaps I don't. I just figure he is in the doing little somersaults or something ... like just flipping his whole body around ....

I had this feeling while PG and I worried about the same thing.

Once LO was here, he did the startle reflex and then shook both arms out at the same time really quickly for a few seconds - and it was VERY obvious that it was those exact same movements I had been feeling from time to time - I was like 'WOW - so THAT's what you were doing!'

Having said that, if you are really worried, DO go and get checked out xxx

I've experienced this twice and to be perfectly honest I wouldn't worry yourself. I read somewhere that sometimes baby can get something caught, like a foot or a hand and they shake vilently to free themselves. If babs is moving fine and well after I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. When it happened to meone day when I was lying down I thought he was going to splatter out from my belly!
