Hi! Hoping you lovely ladies can help.

My son is having his first fever3 days after his 1 year shots. He's just woke up during his night time sleep. Temp is 101.9 with fast breathing. Did anyone else's child have a fever after shots? How long did it last? Is it normal to breath quickly with a fever? I've just given Tylenol.

The fever shouldn't last long. It's merely an immune response to the vaccine (a good thing!).

Yes, my LO had a fever with her 12 month vaccines. She had fast breathing one night too. It lasted a couple of days, but the fever was much milder after the first day.

Mine had a fever all day yesterday - she has had one before but it wasn't like this, and it quickly developed into a cold that time.

She hasn't had any shots lately, but is teething pretty badly, so we are putting it down to that at the moment. She had a temperature of 38.3 at its highest point and was also breathing faster, but not laboured/wheezing - that's what you should look out for as a concern.

At points she also had cold hands and feet, and after a bath was shivering really badly, all of which Google told me pointed to meningitis!!! However, she was still eating a little, tired but not hugely unhappy, drinking loads, smiling, able to walk, etc. so I just monitored her and gave Calpol every four hours to try and bring her temperature down. She slept in just a nappy, but was burning up at 2 am. By 7, the fever was gone and she seems perfectly normal today - just tired.

Anyway, I digress. Fevers are common after vaccinations and from what my daughter was doing and what others have told me, breathing faster is pretty normal too. Just keep an eye on him and keep giving the Tylenol. It's unlikely the fever will last more than a day.

Thanks everyone! I'm a paranoid mom and he has unexplained gi issues and we have a specialist appointment early Dec.

No fever today but had one yesterday. He is barely drinking anything or eating solids. Hopefully all immunization related.
