If you spend the day out, how do you feed LO?

How do you sterilise bottles? Or make up the feed?

I was wondering if I made up the feed, then let it cool itself is it safe? I k ow you have to use thew feed up 1 hour after taking it out of the fridge.

Once a bottle is sterilised, and the lid is on it, will it be ok to take empty for a few hours, and then use cartons of ready made formula?

I'm dreading going out!

Hey when I go out with my LO I pre pack the formula powder in a baggie( measured out and packed in seperate baggies for seperate feeds) i sterilize my bottles and then fill them with water to however many ounces i need. Like today i went out for 6 hours nd my little girl drinks 4 oz every 3 hours so i packed two bottles filled with water and two baggies filled with formula powder. If im somewhere where i cant get a bowl of warm water to warm it up i just find a washroom and run the tap until its hot and put the bottle of my bottle over the drain to stop the water from draining and let it warm a little. I know they say you have to put the powder in hot water to sterilize it but my pediatrician actually told me as long as im not putting my fingers in the formula and wash the scoop before i put it back in the can its fine. hope this helps a little.

I will take empty bottles out and fill them as I need with the ready to feed stuff. That is the easiest. If I have no cans of that I will make up a bottle and put it in a cold bag with ice packs to keep it cold. I will bring a thermos of hot water and use that to warm the bottle (putting the bottle into the thermos as if it were a bowl).

If you premake it it's fine as long as you keep it cool!

We either use cartons, or take 4 oz cooled water and 6oz pre-measured powder. If we stop off at, say Starbucks, we ask for a wee jug of boiling water (like a milk jug) to make the feed up to the 6oz. I know it seems complicated, but when you get used to it it's fine. I remember the early days. Everything seems so complicated, but I promise, soon it'll fall into place. Good luck! x

I make my bottles up the night before and keep them in the fridge until needed.
When out and about I keep my bottles in a cool bag with ice blocks in then use boiling water to heat the bottle up as and when.
- lots of people dont like doing it this way, but it works well for me and my lo has had no problems being fed this way

If I take empty bottles to put the ready made cartoons into, will they still be sterile? I figured, as long as the lids on, then the teat and inside of the bottle will be fine.

i premake then take them in a bottle bag. Yes you can sterilise, put the bottle together and then add the cartons of milk when your out. X

I fill up how ever many bottles I need and bring a small can of formula with.

After the bottles are cleaned and sterilized, I pour warm/hot pre-boiled water into each bottle I'm taking with me. I have a formula container, so I pre-measure formula into each of the 3 compartments (right now its 3 scoops of powder formula for 6 oz of water). When LO gets hungry, I just pour the formula into a bottle and shake it up. Good to go. If the water is still warm, there is no need to re-heat the water.

I used to do both the pre-made carton/sterilised bottle and water/ powder options - either works fine. The bottles will be fine sterilised then sealed up and popped in your bag x

Ohhhhh you will be a pro in no time - I remember having nightmares about feeding them both when i was out - but you get used to it soo quickly xxxx

I do either the sterilised bottle and cartons or make up the bottles in the day and keep them in the fridge or cool bag. I used cartons alot when I was out in the summer as the bottles wouldn't stay cold for long. I will use a sterilised bottled up to 12 hours after its been sterilised as long as its not been opened and that's been fine for us.

Don't worry, you will soon be a pro at it. Try both ways and see which one suits you best. Either works ok.

Hiya, i just take sterlised bottles out with me and use the ready made cartons and give them at room temp :) xx

Thanks ladies. I'd rather use the cartons while we were out. She prefers the ready made stuff anyway. And if I'm out alone, its a lot of faffing about trying to make a bottle up.
:) hopefully it'll get easier as she gets older and less demanding.

I found that too, it's much much easier to use the carton stuff when you are out rather tan faffing with powder! I keep a couple of cartons in my changing bag and always take out a sterilised bottle or two with me, even if she's not due a feed. Gives me peace of mind that I'll always have enough in case she randomly gets hungry or if we end up out longer than expected! I believe bottles remain sterile for 24 hours after sterilising them x
