I am 34 year old TTC for 1.5 years now. I had a post coital test done in Jan along with ultrasound and everything looked good. I got a laproscopy done 3 weeks back and the tubes were open, the doctor found my uterus to be rounded instead of a being a fist shaped. She said it could be either endometriosis or fibroids. As I was going to get a MRI done, I did not wanted to waste time and so she even told me to go for Clomid this cycle. I finished my 5 clomid pills y'day and today had the MRI. Find out that I have fibroids inside the uterus and doctor told us to not try this month.

I am meeting the doctor on wednesday but I am worried now. Can I get pregnant with fibroids inside uterus? What are my choices? Anyone has any experience with this? Please advise. Thanks a lot.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time. I have had a fibroid in my womb for years now and they measure it every time but it doesn't grow or anything - just sits there. I have been told that this doesn't make any difference for me but I know it depends where the fibroid is and if it blocks anything or might make implantation difficult, so I'm sure they would have looked into this at your scan. But thousands of women have fibroids - its quite common- so try not to worry too much.

I hope they look after you and you get some answers soon.

xx

Thank you for your reply. I am worried as the doctor told us not to try when i have just finished my clomid cycle.

Hi Shils - I'm off work just now recovering from having mine removed.
I had a fibroid that was 8x9cms which was having 2 effects (as far as I can see) on my ttc efforts. Firstly, it took up virtually all of the available implantation space, and secondly, it was heavily distorting the shape of my womb (neither of which are good news for eggs to snuggle in). The other problems with it were to do with carrying a baby (not a lot of space left for growing) and birth (it was sitting very low in my womb and may have at least partially blocked the way out)

I had open surgery to remove it (too big for keyhole sadly) and they have said it's 3 months from the op before it would be safe for me to conceive....seeing as I have to save for donor eggs, I won't be flexing my womb muscles anytime soon.

Whether you need surgery will depend on: size, number and position of fibroids. Lots of women have fibroids (about 1 in 4 I think) and most mange to have babies with them there. My guess is your doctor will only consider surgery if yours is/are getting in the way of you having a baby - if not, they'll leave well alone

Good luck duck xx

Hey Shils I am pretty much the same age as you. I had an internal examination last Monday for the Dr just to 'check' everything was OK. I have been ttc for 8 months now (and lied to my Dr that it had been longer), but my Dr was not taking me seriously at all - she told me it was still early days and that she knew women in their forties who were pregnant etc etc. Yawn. Anyway - she was shocked when she examined me as my uterus was so large - she said 'Are you sure you are not pregnant' - erm YES! So I booked a private ultrasound - it is tomorrow afternoon as I can't stand the thought of waiting over a month for my appointment on the NHS. Reading up I have either fibroids or endo, (although that is just google research), but hopefully I will find out tomorrow. You can get pregnant with fibroids - most women in their 30s have them to some extent - but it just depends where they are. They can be removed and I know a couple of people who got pregnant after having them removed.

I hope you get some answers soon x :hugs:

Thank you for responding to my post.

Urchin - I wish you a speedy recovery. How long is the recovery pocess for this surgery? The doctor has called me on wednesday to let me know the options that i have available. I will also try and seek a second opinion after I hear what she has to say. I did have an internal ultrasound after my post coital in Jan, and my concern is how come nothing like this was detected at that time. And why did i have to waste so many months to find this problem.

My big concern is my age. My husband will be turning 39 this year and I fear more and more as the time is passing by.

MushyPea : After the laproscopy my enlarged uterus was detected, the doctor had said it could be either endo or fibroids. Endo is treatable medicinally and in fact chid birth is a treatment for endo. With regards to fibroid, you answered everything yourself. Depends the size, location etc.

They tell you to wait 3 months after open surgery before getting pregnant (not sure if it's the same for keyhole) .... and it does make sense to wait the stated time - things need to be properly knitted back together again before you put all that pressure on the scar

That's what my doctor told me too. I am going for a second opinon and hopefully have the surgery soon. Thanks for your response Urchin. Hope you are recovering well.

I was pregant whent they dicovered my fibroid in my uterus.Well I had a hard pregnancy but my little man was born Thursday safe and well.Labour was slightly different due to the fibroid and the after care was more intense.

Hi Shills I am not sure what you decided to do but I found this forum and figured I would post. I had my open myo on july 14th. They found 3 submucosal fibroids biggets measuring 4 cms. I have been trying for 1 year and not even a hint of a pregnancy. So I had the surgery and they told me to wait 3 months before trying again. I do hope for a quick pg afterward but dont we all! I hope you are doing well....
