I'm 33w+4 and for the last few days, I wake up with the joints of fingers in pain and seem to be swollen, it's also a bit red. After a bit of movement and morning shower it will go away. I was just wondering if this is something normal during pregnancy as I haven't read about it. Anyone has such joint pain?

I had the same thing with my first daughter. I thought I had rheumatoid arthritis or something but my doctor said it was just part of pregnancy and it will go away. It did after the baby was born. My friend had the same thing and got sent to a rheumatologist for work up but it was all fine... pregnancy related. So depending on how aggressive your doctor is... you might get worked up for it.

I have this. It's mostly from retaining excess fluid. My hands are swollen and all my joints in the fingers and wrist hurt so bad when I first wake up! Can't make a fist or grip very well, but it goes down as I take a shower and move a bit, once circulation starts making it around!

For a little instant relief, try running your hands under cold water, it feels good! There are compression gloves you can probably get either through your doctor or maybe just from a pharmacy on your own... they help a little as well. I wear them sometimes during the day, I haven't tried to wear them at night yet to see if they help.

Also try sleeping with your hands up a little bit, try not to lay on them and cut circulation off. And hang in there, you're not alone! :hugs:

Thanks ladies. I'm okay with the pain, it goes away after the shower so it's a short time to endure, was worried it's not pregnancy related and something I need to see doctor for, but now I know it's okay.

I've got it too. First time in 5 pregnancies. It's annoying and can be really sore but it's just fluid. I wear wrist braces, like RSI ones you can get at a pharmacy. They help.

Same here. Can't move my fingers at all when I first wake up. It goes away mostly after a shower. Weirdest pregnancy symptom ever.

I've got it too, especially when I first wake up. My hands are super swollen and it's painful to try to make a fist or to grab things. I have trouble turning the door knob to let the dog out every morning. Super weird!

I got this too. It usually gets a little better as the day goes on, but still feel a bit achy sometimes during the day. I've heard that this can be pregnancy carpal tunnel which is due to fluid retention cutting off some blood flow to your hands. It's fun right? Lol

I have that too, it's called a carpal tunnel syndrome. I tried braces from pharmacy but it didn't help.

Mine arn't swollen, but I seem to not be able to grip things as well as I used to. Could be carpal tunnel?
