Hi ladies, got my referral letter this morning for my first appointment with the fertility specialist, just wondering if you can offer me any advice on what to expect. I am very nervious, DH sperm test results came back normal and all my tests came back fine apart from progesterone which they said was 'only 17' but I am not sure what that means.

Can anyone offer any advice to stop me stressing for the next 3 weeks?

Bring all your paper work from your other dr. Any tests they may have done, blood or sonograms, will be hugely helpful and save you a ton of time. I got a full copy of my file, made another copy to keep for me and gave one to my RE. It saved me a months worth of tests. Bring your husbands SA with you, too!

Know exactly where you are in your cycle. It matters for when they do some tests, like FSH.

I'll try to think of more but that is some stuff to get together.

Good Luck!
Sara H.

My doc just asked some qestions and made appointments for me to repeat the blood tests the doc had done and for a test to check me tubes where not blocked, at the next appointment all tests had come back clear and I was prescribed clomid x

Thanks both of you for replying xx

I feel a bit more comfortable on what to expect now, had been very nervous. I would imagine the same as everyone at this point, worried about what the problem may be/if there is a problem. Ultimately worried there will be nothing they can do and I will never have children (which I know is not something I should worry about now but is always just sitting there at the back of my mind). Thanks for the tip about taking existing test results, will ring up for a copy of those this week, don't cope particularly well with blood tests so if I can avoid repeating those then that will be great.

Don't lose hope, you never know if there is something small, like thinking that you have the timing right but being off by a few days... or something chemical... or whatever!

Blood tests: I'm not fond of them either but I find if I am talking to the tech, about the weather or how their kid is doing in school or whatever, since then I am distracted! I have even asked them if we can chat since it makes it easier for me and they have always been kind.

It will go well, no worries! They want to help you and are totally on your side!
Hang in there!

Some dr want it and some don't be I would start a daily temp chart. Can be very helpful to know where you are in your cycle. And, make your life easier and get a digital thermometer to do it, sooo much. Mine even keeps the temp from the time before, so I can make sure I wrote it down correctly while half awake! Also, you are looking at fractions of a degree here, so digital is easier to read.
Here is some info and sample charts:

My only problem is I tend to sleep with my mouth open... so I have to wake up and close it for a while to warm it back up to get the right temp! UGG! :wacko:

Some Dr. also like you to keep track in your calendar how often you BD so they can see the timing. I keep it in my day-timer: you can come up with a code so if others see you calendar they don't know what it is. Mine is, since I am a Yankees fan, "YW", which stands for "Yankees Win!". No one who has glanced at my calendar has figured that out yet!

Good luck! Tell us how it goes!:thumbup:

Don't have any advice really, but just wanted to say that I have my first FS appointment in exactly 3 weeks as well! So far, hubby has had SA done (normal) and I had HSG and pelvic exam (looks ok). Have not had day 3 day 21 bloods done, so I think the doc will prescribe that. Also, the nurse said they would do an ultrasound on the same day of the appoiintment.

I am excited, nervous, worried all in one. Good luck to you...mebbe we can share notes after the appointment?

Definitely, that would be great, it's so nerve wracking. I have also got another 'problem'. The day of the appointment I am due to work 12-8 and my appointment is at 3. I have asked for my shift to be changed to 8-4 so that I can take some flexi to cover the appointment time and leave at 2 but they want to see the letter for the appointment. Although it's not completely obvious why I am going, it does say about fertility on there and I haven't told anyone at work and would prefer to keep it that way. Not sure how to cope with it other than to suck it up and just give the letter to them.

Hey

when we had our first gyno app, we were:
* weighed
* discussed diet and bmi
* provided urine sample both me and dh
* discussed in detail the tests we had prior which were all sent from our doctor
( swabs, 2x sa, pelvic scan results which showed I had pco, cd21 bloods)

The nurse suggested a hycosy which I'm waiting for cd1 to turn up and cd 2 3
Or 4 bloods which I'm also waiting for then they schedule a follow up app for 12 weeks incase there is any wait for the hycosy which they said there may be.

We were in there about 1 hr, the nurse was lovely and it was nice to sit and actually talk to someone as our doc hasn't been very good unfortunatly, it's great he sent us for all the tests but his communications have been bad.

Hope this helps and good luck
