First clomid cycle-scan shows nothing on cd 13-Do I give up?

Hi Ladies

I hope some of you that have some experience with clomid can give me some advise.

I have long and irregular cycles but hormones and ultra sound came back normal. Also I have been temping for 6 months and I do O just really late in my cycle and my cycles kept getting longer and longer since I stopped bcp almost a year ago. My dr. suggested I try clomid.

I started with 50 mg and had a scan today on cd 13 and she saw nothing and said it doesnt look like you will o this cycle and suggested I start provera and move on to 100 mg next cycle.

My question is, do some people just maybe o later on clomid? Is there a chance follicles will start maturing and maybe I will o around cd20 or so? I just don't want to give up I havent o'ed since December and I am sick of not having a chance at getting pregnant. Is it worth waiting it out or should I just throw in the towel and not delay the inevitable and start the provera and move on?

Also any of you have success stories with failing to O on 50 mg but having success with an early normal O on 100 mg?
Any input would be much appreciated.

Hey hun...don't give up. I've noticed with myself and from what other people say that they do O later on clomid. I normally O anywhere from day 11-13 by myself and anywhere from 15-17 on clomid.

Don't kill me for saying this, but looking at your chart, it looks like you may have Oed on cd6/7 I would say 7. You have a really good temp spike there and it's stayed up. Plus you had the ewcm days 6-9. If that's the case, then you wouldn't see anything on day 13.

As far as the follies maturing later...you would still see something there even if they weren't mature. I think they grow 1-2mm a day.

So seeing how there was nothing there, let's hope you already Oed...fxd!

Thank you so much for your response. I wondered about o'ing on day 7 as well but I only had taken 2 clomid days by then so how would that be possible? Also wouldn't my Dr have seen that on the ultra sound that I o'ed?

She didn't say there was nothing there but she said there was a lot of small follicles that didn't look like they were doing anything.

I think it is possible...especially if you've had irregular cycles. As far as the smaller follicles...I've heard of people having left over follicles even into the next cycle, but a lot of little ones, can't say.

Hmmm...well my Dr said she looked to see if maybe I o'ed and she said she didn't see anything to indicate I did. Wouldn't she see it on the ultra sound?

I do find my temps to be odd though. I have been temping for 6 months and my pre o temps are usually around 96.6 or so and post o up to 97.6. These temps are higher than my normal post o temps! But I just chalked it up to the clomid.

I don't think they are you much higher, but I will say my temps oh clomid were higher...by almost an entire degree. But I was always feeling hot and having hot flashes.

I would say to trust your doctor as far as her hit seeing any indication. Did she do any bloodwork? Maybe check your progesterone levels...but that's usually a cd21 test, about a week after O.

Thank you so much for your input. I still haven't decided what I will do. My temps are odd and they keep staying high so i may just wait it out 7-10 days and see what happens. At this point I have been waiting for months whats another week or so!

Agreed...that's kind of the way I tend to think about things..."almost 2 years, what's another..." Unfortunate to have to think this way, but I guess you used to it

Hiya! Hope u don't mind me jumping in but just wanted to say....my bfp cycle (150mg clomid cd 3-7) I had a scan at cd17 and it didn't look promising at all....but to double check they brought me in again on cd 20/21 and one of my follicles had made a comeback so I triggered cd23, ovulated cd 25 and got preg

Saying that, I had cycles on lower doses where nothing grew, and we gave up and induced a bleed so we could move on to the next cycle....but I don't think it hurts to give it a few more days to make sure, if they'll scan u again. Unless of course you have already ovulated

My dr. didn't even mention another scan she just wanted me to move on. So I think I will give it a little more time and take opks this week and see what comes of it. According to my weird temps it looks like I o'ed but I have none of my normal post o symptoms so that and the fact that my dr. didn't see it on the u/s makes me think no O. But I still can't explain why my temps are staying at 97.8ish when my normal pre o was always 96.6ish before.

Would it be worth mentioning your temps to your Dr and asking if they'd do a progesterone test? I know in the UK some Drs are really anti-temping and would probably send you packing, but from what I gather Drs in the States are a bit more customer-focused so might do it.

Unfortunately my Dr. is anti-temping too. It is so frustrating, why are they against something that has been proven to work? Makes no sense.

If i were u I'd take an hpt just to make sure cause if you did o early you'd be like 12 dpo

Thank you mindy! I am still waiting it out. I do plan to take a HPT tomorrow morning because DH and I are going away for the weekend and I would like to have some drinks if I am not pregnant.

I had some odd spotting yesterday and my temp was the lowest it has been in awhile but still not as low as my normal pre o temps which are about 96.6ish.

I am not sure what to make of the spotting-it wasn't from BD'ing because DH and I hand't BD'ed in a few days prior to that. I saw a couple of times in the day cm that had a very slight brown tint to it, then I had some stretchy but cloudy cm that had a little streak of bright red blood in it twice. Then DH and I BD'ed last night and after I wiped and had very light pink cm but today nothing so far This is so confusing!

I just wanted to update everyone that AF showed up on CD 21. So it looks like according to my temps I must have o'ed on CD7 which is insane because before this I haven't o'ed earlier than CD 24 with most o days being CD 40ish. I can't imagine clomid made me o considering I had only taken 2 pills at that point. I am also still unsure how my Dr. didn't notice that I o'ed when she did the cd 13 u/s. I am hopefully going to get to speak to her tomorrow about this...

I thought that was when you Oed. The date FF gave originally didn't make since. Sometimes you have those fluke cycles. I was on a thread with a girl who Oed on cd9 the month after she took clomid. I've Oed early myself before like that too. The good news is that your LP is within normal range. I would ask her about missing the fact that you Oed too, and I don't care is she anti-temping or not, I would print off the FF chart and show it to her. Sometimes you have to make people listen, and if they still don't, get a new doc.

my first round was 50mg, and i did Ov
my second was again 50 but at my CD10-14 scan nothing was growing, so the gave me 100mg right away to take, i didnt have to start provera and wait,
my 3rd, i was 100mg again and same thing nothing so right away again they gave me 150mg and i did Ov,

That is interesting ourfate, I have heard of this method before from someone else on the forum. I like that better than having to go the provera route, I will ask my dr. about this if this cycle isnt successful.
